hey everyone.

here i am in Tanzania! things are going well. the flights were long but good. i slept through most of the both MIN- AMST- and AMST- KILI. we arrived at 10 pm saturday night, it was rainy and humid. it is actually very tropical here, very green and lush with lots of banana plants around. it has rained at night but clears up during the days, although everything is very muddy. i have already scrubbed my new shoes in a bucket!! speaking of buckets, they seem to be very useful here! the shower is a normal shower but the water pressure is lacking so we use a buket to collect the water and then dump it over our head, or scoop out of the big bucket with a little one!! the water is somewhat warm though which is nice.

our CCS homebase is good, the staff is amazing and all the other volunteers are great. we are one big Tanz family. the food so far has been pretty good, we even had Mac n Cheese one night for dinner so i was super pumped!!! lots of spinach and beans too, and avocados.

our house is right in the middle of the village and our neighbours have chickens, goat, and a rooster. so far the rooster has woken me up both mornings at 5 am!!! the windows are always open (just screens ) so it's hard to keep out the local sounds. also there are stray dogs that howl at night! but all is good, it's an awesome experience so far. tomorrow we start our jobs so that should be neat. also we go into Arusha, the big town, so that will be neat too. more to come ....luv heath!!

You made it!
Hey you--glad to hear you made it over there safe and sound! I can't believe you had mac and cheese--that's hilarious. Glad to hear you're having fun, although if it were me I would try to find a way to silence that rooster...hmmm...I'll do some research and get back to you. Maybe rooster charming?? All is well here. I've been with you the past few days--up at 5am helping Adam with some photography. It's fun work, actually (I get to be the director--haha), but early mornings are not fun. Speaking of photography, can't wait to see some of yours. Talk to you soon! ab
