bella and junia
roots rock reggae bar.yss. sooo bellas train was like 3 hours late and i had to wait on my own with nothing to do in the nasty heat the whole time. i read some stuff about the conservation of energy. she got here in the end and it was cool. we went and ate by the riverside and went to the bar and listened to reggae and rocked out. wednesday we started our trek thing. which was so awesome my hair hurts. we started off driving in some pickout about 100km at least out of chiang mai up some windy mountain roads full of potholes and other dangers. it was pretty fun. scenery was cool and the other people were too. went to the national park and checked out a waterfall, first of many.after that we went up the highest mountain in Thailand where the king and queen stupas are. thet are these cool temple/spire things at the peak and overlook a breathtaking span of the mountains and fields etc. it was so high the clouds were rolling at and under us.was kinda chilly and really quiet. being so high up in a temple amplified the beauty, not that it needed it.we then went
to some hill tribes village, the Mung tribe (probably wrong spelling) they were from china and we met some well old dude who used to be an opium fiend but he cant get it anymore so now he smokes huge bongs all day. village life eh?we then trekked some way to this small camp witha river and small waterfalls. it was awesome.we spend ages sliding down all the mini falls and down the river and then we explored it a bit more. Some dudes from the Karen tribe cooked us an amazing meal and gave us this whiskey they make out of tree bark. it was actually really smooth so we drank round the fire and they taught us games and tricks and we taught then some games. Its was actually a *special* night and we slept and woke with only the noise of the forest. no cars. no drunks.
next day:
elephant ride.
.
was so cool.
we just sort of miandered around and through some jungle while the elephants did their thing. couldnt really make them do anything as they werent proper work elephants it seems. my elephant was called MEGAPAT! she was well stubborn and just wanted to
eat.a girl after my ow heart. luke sat on this chair on her back and i sat on her neck/head. they were just mucking about and it was well hard to stay on but alot of fun.was quite sore when it came time to swap round. the elephants took us about 3/4 of the way and we trekked the rest to another village. the Karen tribe this time. alot of animals mincing about. some really cute cats. bought some bark whiskey and we trekked again to another waterfall. a much bigger one. wa more of a series of small falls into deep pools ending with one big drop. climbing to the top was a mission and kinda hairy but going down the falls was bliss so we did it like 4 times. theeen we trekked miles and miles (probably not that far) up and over the ridge of some foresty mountain thing. it was a bit of an effort.then we did some bamboo rafting. the water isnt deep or fast but it was *really* hard to stay on, especially with luke and bella jumping about and making a mess. we all fell in many many times but I alone retained
view from queen stupa
this was too beautiful for my camera to capture so i put some flowers in it. skills. my grace and dignity when i slipped over, bashed myself and fell in. repeatedly.
the trekk was awesome and its too hard to try and convey how much fun it was and what we did so this is just an overview really, even though it was only 2 days the national park and the stupas fell like a lifetime ago. 2 days packed with ultimo-fun.
now we go drink the bark whiskey.
heres some pix. enjoi.
