Patong Beach
Di & Lena on busy street in Patong Our first glimpse of Thailand was our stay of 5 nights in Patong Beach. Not the greatest experience, a lot like Kuta Bali with constant street venders wanting to sell you the usual tourist clothes & rubbish. The hotel however was a nice escape as we had a 23rd floor room looking out of the town and bay. Excellent weather for these days. We then set off to Phi Phi Island by ferry which was a very nice scenic voyage arriving to out great pleasure at a very beautiful harbour. Stayed 2 nites Phi Phi Hotel with 5th floor room overlooking both harbour side of island and the bay side. Excellent weather again, but the people here were more relaxed & less pressing with selling. Our excitment lead us to a full day of sailing around the island with snorkelling at various reefs. Very good coral and fish a plenty. We were howver promised an english speaking guide with commentatry. We got an engrish speaking gride & a whistle for commentary. Brow whistle, we go next spot. This adventure was first highlighted by a fruit fight with a lovely english girl who couldn't mind her own business & then to
Phi Phi Harbour
Lena on Phi Phi harbour shore top it all off our last snorkel location (as instructed by our guide) was so shallow that I ripped my foot open on coral. Got a free ride on the Phi Phi ambulance to hospital for 4 stitches & antibiotics. Lena enjoyed the ambulance ride. After 2 nites in town we moved to Bay View Resort and this was splendid, excellent large rooms with balcony view over harbour and smaller Phi Phi Lai island. The tropical heat was sometimes exhausting. Rob jogged 2 mornings & expired early each day. We found a nice walk to long beach which and excellent swimming, snorkelling and eating. After 5 nites we left Phi Phi reluctantly but will return. Off to Khao Sok National Park via slow mini bus with numerous unexplained stops. 2 hours later arrived middle of nowhere, left for dead, but managed to get lift to Riverside Cottages. Very nice, basic room but starting 2 nite package here with river canoeing again with engrish speaking tour gride. NOT. But canoe trip was excellent about 10 klm seeing monkeys in wild and beautiful lime stone canyons and jungle. Back to cottages food was excellent and plentiful. Early nite for next days highlight
Phi Phi Sunset
Sunset snorkel trip with Lena riding elephant. After some hesitation she moved from cradle to elephants neck and rode for hour thru jungle. (so brave) this was a very good trip with lots of interaction with the elephants. After, back for big lunch, then 2 hour jungle walk in National Park with swimming. Back to Buddist temple and monkeys heaven for Lena. Finished day with another excellent dinner then early night. Next day was full travel to Surat & Don Sak ferry port fro ferry to Koh Samui. Overnite at Nathon Residence, bargain rooms of very good quality. Only overnight stay until next days ferry ride to Koh Tao. Unfortunately we have had monsoonal rains since Koh Samui which have not eased. We intend to stay 5 nites but may leave early.
