Bonjour mes amis! (i think that is how you say hello my friends) please excuse the lack of caps for my shift button seems to suck.
i have now been in paris for 3 days and 4 nights and it is quite an enjoyable town. notre dame's rose windows are simply spectacular. i warn those that are eager to see photos that not a single one i took out of like 15 do the windows 15% of the justice they deserve. eiffel tower is spectacular at night. aweinspiring, dumbfounding are the two adjectives that first come to mind. louvre is ginormous and the quality of art is amazing, i am left without even begining to understand that amount of talent/skill that is required to create any one of the paintings or sculptures. the arc de triumph is large and impressive but otherwise semi unimpressive. lol of course it is spectacular on its own but i am becoming spoiled and compare it to the haunting scenery of the highlands, the fire containted within the diamons of londons crown jewels, the spectacular castle of edinbourgh, the beauty of the irish countryside, and the brilliant colors of windows of notre dame. so when i say it is unimpressive i mean only when compared to amazing sights i have thusfar seen, as in itself it is quite a sight.
for a more personal experiences. was walking through luxembourg gardesn. a great park in south east paris when i came across a basketball court. hung around long enough and found myself playing in a pick up game. i am sorry to say that i did the us a large injustice as i pretty well sucked but it was fun. not the greatest idea in hindsight seeing as one, i sweated making my clothes need washing prematurly. two, i added probly a weeks worth of walking wear onto my shoes. and third and worst of all that i developed gigantic blood blisters on the souls of my feet. but it was fun. i didnt learn my lesson either. just yesterday i joined in on a pick up game of football (real football not the barbaric sport we call football) chatted with some of the guys afterward. it was fun. but of course my feet disagree. now the skin of the blood blisters have torn off but still i played football in paris. how cool is that.
as for paris and its inhabitants. the thing that i have noticed most is the social atmosphere here. unlike britain and ireland with the pub scene, full of people laughing and carrying on, the french cafe and restaurant scene is much different. imagine a restraunt back home. where there would be enough tables for 5 people to sit, in paris they have jammed room enough for 10 or 15. literally you are a foot away from your neighbor. speculating as i ate i noticed a strange lack of the raucous behaviour or the pubs and found instead that people were not telling jokes or funny stories but seemed to talking about real things. of course this is all musing because i cant understand what they say but i like the scene. i can easily imagine talks of french existentialism being shared in any of the numerous cafes i have passed. there is a certain beauty to it, during their meals parisiens not only rub elbows with their neighbors but also rub minds with the company they keep. i find myself quite attracted to it.
au revoir from the city of love and lights
