Bula from Fiji!!

After being greeted at the airport by a Fijian band playing traditional music we stayed in Nadi for the first night. The next day we got a bus along the coast to 'The Beachouse', where we stayed seven nights. Its the place where ITV filmed Celebrity Love Island - it was great. The weather was not great for most of our time there but the last two days were nice and sunny. most of the other people there were English because everyone wanted to live the Celebrity Luuuuurve Island dream. LOL. There was loads to do there though and we had a brilliant time. They did coconut jewellery making each day (which Olly loved!) and coconut weaving which was amazing to watch but very hard to do! There was also kayaking, massage, horse riding, jungle trekking, volleyball and coconut bowling!

One day three of us went on a trip to a village in the jungle about an hour away. When we got there (at about 11am) they were still celebrating the wedding of a couple from the village. It was a proper fijian rave up! We all drank Kava (a narcotic drink made from the

These kids loved the attention and seeing photos of themselves.
Kava root...Fijians drink it all day long...it tastes like earth and makes your tongue tingle) and there was a lot of singing and guitar playing. They made us dance to every song. It was so funny...the women were really getting down, one of them said 'you take it baby!' to Olly when she was strutting her stuff! The men danced like Justin Timberlake...they had definitely seen an R'n'B music video at some point... They certainly had the moves!!! After the dance-off we had some good old fijian food; curry and scones, on the floor of one of the houses.

Another day a group of us went to Sigatoka, the nearest town, about 30 mins down the road. It was quite nice and not too busy with several craft shops. We had a big Indian meal. There are a lot of Indo-Fijians here so a lot of the food is Indian.

After a week we decided to head off and see a bit more of Fiji...

Corrugated metal has replaced the traditional thatch in most places. All the people seemed really happy and firendly despite their living conditions.

We were welcomed into the house of chief of the village to drink kava with everyone. The older guys were wasted and it was only midday!

Not long to go now !!
Hi you two, I just wanted to add my final comment on your wonderful journey. The 'Angel' cloud in your pictures of Cape Reinga was amazing, mum brought the print for me to see and it was even better than on the Blog. Fiji looks so beautiful, not sure I could cope with all that hard drinking though!! Well it is getting nearer to you joining the Rat Race again but you have an amazing time and will have some beautiful memories. Enjoy your last few weeks, looking forward to seeing you both. Keep each other safe. Viv x
