Goan Sunset
Just before the sun sets each night the beach becomes full of cows having a bath and walk along the beach - its very surreal!!! Hello all and any who check out my random travel rants....
Goa is the most bizare resort that I woke up in last Thursday - it is situated half the way down the west coast of India (about 150 KMs from Mumbai).
From Goa airport I managed to get away without being persuaded to step into a taxi 700/800 Rubbies. Instead I managed to engineer 3 local buses that took me all the way to Calagunte for about 35 Rubbies. This is sadly where my seasoned travel instincts ended and I happily decided to become an affluent beach tourists.
After checking out some nasty cheap hotels that were filthy I stumbled upon a Swedish owned resort called the Charleston (I actually forgot the name one day and managed to get back by remembering the Charleston dance movements that me and another traveller had created on the first day). I decided that it's private pools, beach front restaurant and young Swedish cliental was for me....
Many lazy days of sipping coffee as the sun came up, swimming in the surf all morning, reading below parasoles in the hottest part of the day and sipping b*** as the sun
42 Hour party?
Me and Ericka before setting out up a Mountain in search of some 2 day trance festival. Alas, we didn't find it, well not in its full glory anyway, it's probably a good case of the journey being better than the destination anyway... started to come down and our beach became mopped with Cows. I have a picture of this event, but do not think it does justice to the surrealness of the situation.... )
Me and mate Ericka (Swedish magazine Journalist) did one night set out in search of some hidden mountain top 42 hour party, by the time we had found it (hours later) the police had closed it down. Subsequent rumours then persisted of where it would be re-started and a whole mob of us on taxis, mopeds and bikes proceeded to spend most of the night looking for it without success. We admitted defaet about 6AM and headed down to a beach shack for sunrise and breakkie....
Obviously, Indias reputation for dodgy food is evident at at least one person in our group and food poisoning to some extent each day. I got it once and the only word I will use to describe the aftermath is 'projectile' - not nice.... (
I mean, it's not been a hard holiday hanging with rich Swedes on perfect beaches.... I am planning to either return to Goa for Xmas next year or possibly February when the resort is
My Scandanavian Pack
Me, Ericka (Swede), Vivian (Swede) , Kamilla (Danish)and Charlotte (Swede)at a supposedly nice restaurant. Sadly, this was the cue for the whole 'projectile' problem.... ( at it's busiest and most crazy. Plus, I now really want to head to more southern areas of India too. Such a big world - such little time......
Only 11 weeks or so of School now and I will have 11 week or so of nothing - tis a most utopian prospect!!
Have attached a pic of me a couple of months ago playing for the Kuwaitee England side in the annual match against Scotland. Actually quite proud tht I were selected as there are a lot of half decent players from a couple of British leagues out here - so to make the overall team was very cool. We won 6-2 in the end, I set up three goals playing in my overally attacking right wing role. Could have had a goal too, but ruled myself offside when through on goal (the linesmen must have been asleep - I were about 5 yards offside)
Oh, Robin Hood was a BIG success (some pics attached) - it was said by management that it was possibly the strongest Junior Production in the 24 year history of the school. So, no pressure there then for next year.... I think
Lionel - my Goan pet
Me and Kamilla adopted this little creature. Most brave and outgoing, he literally sunbathed with us all day and consumed all our drink and food. ending the production with The Darkness and 'I believe in a forest called Sherwood' was my highlight, most comic. Plus, the fight scenes were out of this world. To the extent where solid hard wood swords were still being broken on stage, such was the passion and the aggression of the fights. I have started to write a sci fi play whilst in Goa, it's about an outer planet called Typhornia which is stealing Earth's oxygen. A peace envoy is sent by Earth and much madness pursues... Think I just wanted to create a play where I could use Europe's 'Final Countdown'!!!
I finish teaching on the 13th June and my school officially closes on the 20th June. I will fly back to UK on Thursday 21st and then...... I'm not so sure exactly what I'm doing. Bur, but will return to Kuwait on the 29th Ausgust. Burma still an option, just am exploring other possible venues too now!!! We will see I guess.... Keep the e-mails etc coming, always cool to hear from everyone...
