Travel Blog Posts

Hello, It is belattedly time I wrote this blog - I got back 6 weeks ago so it is unacceptable that I have been so lazy... Where to start??? First of all my carbon footprint was shockingly bad this summer - Kuwait to UK then 4 days later UK to Bali was not my greenest travel ever. Although, I must give credit to Malaysia Airlines - nicest I've ever flown on... So, I landed in Bali on the 28th June - knackered (never sleep on planes) - I took the easy option and headed to Kuta for some R+R on the beach. Now, if you read enough blogs on any travel site you will see people slag off Kuta and call it a tourist dump full of Australians etc etc... This may be quite accurate, but ... read more

Hello world - I am using a rainy afternoon in Ubud (Bali) as an opportunity to write up about my trip to the top of the vocanic giant - known to the Indonesians as 'Rinjani'.... I first saw this monster as I lazed upon the beaches of Kuta (Bali). Although it is on the neighbouring island of Lombok - Rinjani looms large and aggressively for perhaps 100s of miles... I didn't think it would be hard - I mean I have climbed the hills of Exmoor and even ventured into the valleys of Wales - How hard could it be?? Wow, words cannot explain the sweat, emotions and physical exhaustion encounted over this 4 day multi miled trek.... There were 7 of us in total, along with a guide and team of porters - who carried ... read more

So, my last trip before leaving Kuwait this year was to Bahrain... The home of Michael Jackson, a grand prix track which takes up half the island and many far eastern ladies of the night..... I can't remember so much of the weekend. I didn't even sleep at the hotel I booked a room in - a proper UK style random night. I think the club we ended up in was called F1 and had a Phillipino thrash metal band playing.... I live for such odd moments ) Bahrain is an unashamed middle eastern party island (just off Saudi Arabian Coast) - problem is that it is people from the Middle East that are there partying. Now, that sounds slightly harsh, but people from the Middle East just don't 'do'party at all... They do overly ... read more

Hello all and any who check out my random travel rants.... Goa is the most bizare resort that I woke up in last Thursday - it is situated half the way down the west coast of India (about 150 KMs from Mumbai). From Goa airport I managed to get away without being persuaded to step into a taxi 700/800 Rubbies. Instead I managed to engineer 3 local buses that took me all the way to Calagunte for about 35 Rubbies. This is sadly where my seasoned travel instincts ended and I happily decided to become an affluent beach tourists. After checking out some nasty cheap hotels that were filthy I stumbled upon a Swedish owned resort called the Charleston (I actually forgot the name one day and managed to get back by remembering the Charleston dance ... read more

Howdy all, (New pics to be added still when I get Carmels memory stick) Just returned from Oman late last night, it fact it was a miracle we returned at all as we got hopelessly lost trying to find Sharjah airport in our hire car and only checked in about 20 mins before take off.... Oman was a wicked holiday from start to finish. The first country I have seen in this region that hasn't over developed to the extent where it has lost it's original identity. It is a slow relaxed country that still relies on fishing as it's main industry - and whilst the signs are there that it will soon be 'Dubai-fied', at the moment it is a stunning country with beautiful scenary and approach to life. Anyhows, enough of the slightly pretentious ... read more

Hello.... Tis cold, tis cold, tis so very cold in the UK... Just been having a very mellow xmas with family in Seaford, most pleasant... Lots of time relaxing in front of the utopian fire and all that seasonal jazz.... Very nice to catch up with family, some old mates and my dog..... Not that many seasonal arguments for once, instead more heated political chats etc that normally ended up on the topic of immigration (me thinks my family is becoming slight right of centre in terms of it's political stance...) It has been a while since my last Jordan 'blog' - has been quite a manic few weeks since then. Have had 733 reports to write (I kid thee not) and the inaugural KES Talent Show has happened. It was actually quite a success in ... read more

Hey All / Any that log into this.... Just back from a really thrilling holiday in Jordan (Yes I know, most people think im on a holiday in kuwait, but i get more too) Some of the highlights included: - Going on a camel ride as the sunrose at 5.30AM. Absolutely stunning - we went into the desert and stayed at a Bedquin camp (Where the locals lives in tents in the desert) - Had a good camp fire etc before - like my old scout days ) - Visting Roman ruins at Jesrah (North of Amman) - most impressive - got almost involved with their Roman drama/play and were killed by a Gladiator!! - Climbing Mt Nobu was wicked, unbelievable views looking down towards Bethlehem, Jerusalam, Jerricho etc... That was where Moses first stood and ... read more

I hope someone read that title and freaked out…... I have been on my little journey for about 3 weeks now o an update is well over due. So, everything is going……. (drumroll) really rather well. I will sum up some basic stuff/events in a few witty-ish bulletpoints: - 45 degrees weather does feel quite normal after a couple of days, I play football sometimes in the midday heat - "Mad dogs and Englishmen" etc, but you get used to it. As long as your're downing 3/4 litres per hour of sport everything seems OK, only collapsed once during sport activities. - Have joined lots of clubs to keep myself busy and sporty (lack of alcohol DOES actually make you more active - I always thought that was a myth). Clubs including Tennis club, local footy ... read more

This journal account is primarily about what happens from the time after September 06 in Kuwait, but feel that a quick recap of the 26 odd year before 06 might help give a more rounded picture. So.... here goes (Will be like the Reduced Shakespeare Society etc) So, were born in January 1980 to parents, Roy and Jacki, in Poole - Dorset. Waiting for me was my big sister Jayne who arrived a couple of years before me. Oh, and Filley - pet English Setter Dog. Parents moved us to Seaford (sussex) 3 months after my birth and Tamsyn (second sister) was born in 1983. Ummm everything else was pretty standard for a few years. No major events or issues, very 'normal' childhood if such a thing exists.... Morgan (Great Munsterlander dog joined the pack in ... read more
