The worlds largest water fountain!!
Jen: As we arrived off the plane in Singapore I immediately felt clean. Everywhere is clean and tidy in Singapore and it was a nice change from Indonesia. We arrived late at night and checked into our hostel which offered us "The Rooftop room", which turned out to be literally 16 beds all on the roof of the building...very funny. The hostel was full of western tourists and I'd say at least 3/4 of them were malnourished, these travellers had been travelling super cheap!! Andrew bumped into his friend, Hawke, who he had met in Mexico, as he was staying at the same hostel as us. What a small world. So the boys went out for some beers, although it ended up being 1 beer as the price was $12 per bottle!!

Unfortunately in Indonesia I had eaten something bad and spent 2-3 days in Singapore in bed. We moved into an air-con room and shared it with a lady who randomly screamed in the night and another guy who snored!! Sooo I decided I need our own room and we moved into a cheap hotel, which was fantastic as it was quiet, had cable TV with excellent movies and air-con (I love air-con). Only later did we realise why the hotel was so cheap....we were living on Singapores brothel street!! Ooops.

After a trip to the doctor and some serious drugs I started to feel better and we could check out the city. There are sooo many shopping malls in Singapore, so we visited a few...mainly to hide in the air-con away from the humid weather. Went to Suntec city mall to see the massive fountain they have there that each night has a show.

We did a day trip to Sentosa island, which is just a gondola ride from the city. The gondola was great because it gave panoramic views of the Singapore harbour. Singapore has one of the busiest ports and the ship yards went for miles. At the island we did a jungle walk...Andrew was disappointed that we didn't see any snakes (I was fine with it!!). We walked to Silosa beach and chilled out there.

We also took a trip to the Sungei Buloh Wetland reserve (on recommendation from a Singapore local we met in Indonesia), which was heaps of fun. Saw a crocodile about 2m away from us, heaps of big Monitor Lizards, noisy Circadas, big fish, lots of birdlife and more.

Once I was better we headed for Kuala Lumpur...

Singapore's other name is Lion City because a white lion was seen there and it was thought to be good luck, therefore the city was built there.
