The infamous mailbox
This is the mailbox that is apparently known a little around Adelaide There is a big joke in Australia for people who live outside Adelaide. Adelaide is a sterile, boring place. Well it just so happens that my cousin, Tracey, lives in Adelaide and, of course, protests these claims. She invited us to go there and see that it isn't as hackneyed as everyone makes out.
My brother Az and I set off for Adelaide on 22nd April. Once we arrived, I was actually a little concerned if I would even recognise my cousin. (I hadn't actually seen her for 18 years) But we both seem to recognise each other and it was all good.
Tracey started, straight away, to make Adelaide as exciting as possible. She pointed to the right out of the car and said "Over there is a good place to go out and is one of the most exciting parts of Adelaide". Unfortunately she didn't realise but she was pointing to a cemetary at the time. So that didn't start things out well.
We arrived at her place to see her famous (apparently her mailbox is a little famous in Adelaide (see pictures))
We headed into town to have lunch and see a bit of
Az, here in Adelaide
Yes, we know where we are mate the "City Of Churches"
We saw some of the local attractions like the Malls Ball's and the Sky City Casino.
This trip was no spontanious desicion, it was also to coincide with the series of goodbye parties. Tracey was heading to Canada for work. That being the case, we headed out that night for the first. We had dinner at a restaurant then started drinking at a place called the Belgian Beer Cafe. We tried many fine brews from Belgium. We then moved our way from place to place as the night wore on. We arrived home with Tracey's friend, Anna, and tried to make grilled cheese. (I say tried cause it could have been a lot better)
The next day we headed out to Glenelg. A really nice beach front area that was somewhat akin (at least Az thought so) to Santa Monica. We met up with Anna and saw some of the sights of Glenelg.
One the way back we engaged in a friendly (at least that was the plan) game of Putt Putt Golf.
Details spared but surprisingly, I did ok.
We had dinner then headed back to get ready for the
next farewell/random party to attend. Now Tracey did warn us that this was a party with a difference but never specified why it was so different. It turns out that this was a gay mans party and most of the people there were gay. Now I have no problem with gay people whatsoever, so it didn't worry me but I think az was a little freaked out. We had a good time and it was all good. We were even treated to a drag show which was interesting.
The next day we headed off to Hahndorf. A great little German town started by German settlers about 20 mins from Adelaide. We had lunch in the German Arms Hotel, a few beers and a couple of shots of schnapps. Unfortunately we didn't get much time in Hahndorf because Tracey had to head back for a party. We did, however, go back via the Melba's Chocolate Factory and the big wooden horse.
Tracey raced off to her party so Az and I were left to our own. We thought we might catch the O-Bahn into town (which is a bus that runs on tracks) We caught a movie and had
The girls and I
Showing off our Canadian paraphernalia some Thai for dinner. We were going to meet up with Tracey but we had to catch an early flight so that didn't happen.
We left very early... so early that it was about the time that Tracey got back from her night out.
So after 3 days we were proven wrong that Adelaide is a boring city. We had a great time and will definitely come back.

The Malls Balls
Hi, I'm from Adelaide but now live in Sydney. My ten year old daughter brought up the large silver balls sculpture in Rundle Mall in conversation tonight and I told her that they are called the "Malls Balls". She blushed and refused to believe me so I Googled it, and god bless you, I wasn't let down. I'm vindicated! and now a little home sick. Glad you enjoyed my home town. Like anywhere, It ROCKS when you know where to go. Cheers.
