18th February,
We booked a three-day trip in Chaing Mai, which is north Thailand and takes 12hours on a train to get there. We decided it would be really good fun to go on a three day jungle trek where you get to stay over with native villagers in the jungle, these tribes live completely independently out in the jungle farming food in the fields and pumping water from the streams, their houses are made from bamboo and dried leaves here are some photos of them and the huts that we stayed in…

The food was again fantastic and we made good friends with some Australian guys who had been volunteering in south Thailand for a month to aid the victims and repair the destruction caused by the 2005 tsunami. They were great guys and we’re going to stay with them when we get to Sydney, we trekked through the hot extremely dry jungle as at the moment it is the dry season, sliding on huge leaves on the floor we didn’t see much wild life. The surprising thing was that right in the middle of the jungle they had leveled out a football pitch all dusty sand though no

Speeding down tyhe mountain! Excellent fun, (Very safe though)
grass. It was extraordinary! We bathed and brushed out teeth in the waterfall, because it was so high in the hills the water was freezing, there were loads of flat rocks/waterfalls sloping down hill, which were just fantastic fun to slide down!!! Got a very sore bum and covered in little leeches but it was worth it!!!
On the last day of the trek we went rafting on bamboo rafts down a stream locals guided the boats using bamboo sticks like gondolas. There motto was “no wet no fun” so we got soaked on the way, eventually after a lot of hand splashing I managed to push our driver in it was hilarious. We went elephant trekking too but I didn’t enjoy this as the elephants were treated badly, if the elephant did something to upset the driver they hit there heads with what look like small pick axes pretty hard. I’ve talked to a few people on our travels and no one else experienced the same treatment so here’s hoping there aren’t many places like that around.

We hired a scooter in Chaing Mai and drove to the top of a mountain it was only about 3pounds for the day, I drove as James hadn’t got a license, it was really scary driving at first I nearly crashed it into a wall to the great amusement of the scooter hirers! Lol! Was ok once I got my balance with James on the back we flew!

Last day in Chaing Mai and we went white water rafting was good fun, but the drive there was a white-knuckle ride alone, our driver was absolutely crazy!!!!
