We arrived in Surranthani at 4.30am & were told to look for a sign saying Chow Wang Tours, there was no one with this sign so I asked someone where we were to go, they told us to get in a minibus & we got taken around the corner to a dodgy looking travel agent with no name. The lady inside tried to tell us that we had to pay an extra 250 baht to get to Ao Nang, (the beach resort in Krabi), as the ticket we had paid for was on to Krabi town. We were all annoyed at this but as it was 5am we just paid & got on the bus. Claire was tired & extremely annoyed so decided to get off the bus & give this lady a piece of her mind; in hindsight we probably should have just waited at the pier as I don't think the people that picked us up were the people that were supposed to & we had been scammed.
We got to Ao Nang about 8.30am & had breakfast in a cafe on the beach front whilst deciding where we were going to stay. The atmosphere was still not
very good following the incident the previous night & us leaving Justin, I was still mad & so we didn't really speak. We found a hotel to stay in, it was a bit more expensive than we were used to paying but had flowers on the bed, air conditioning, a TV & most importantly a hot shower which is a real luxury! Plus it was Valentines Day!
Claire & I spent the afternoon in a restaurant overlooking the beach, we wrote in our journals & had some lunch, I think it did me good to have some time away from the boys as Rich wasn't in the best mood either as he had hurt his back. In the evening the four of us met up, the atmosphere was again a bit bad but I decided just to forget what had happened & talk to Justin. We both said what we had to & made friends.
We went to a bar for a drink as none of us were very hungry, and then went on to another bar where there was a free pool table. I put my foot in it with Claire & Rich & so they had
a bit of a row; at this point I got a bit upset as the past day had been probably one of the worst of my trip. We all made friends & had a big group hug so eventually the air was clear between us all.
We went for a lovely Valentines Meal, (at Mc Donald's!) & then went next door to 7/11 & brought a bottle of Samsong. We sat on the beach under the stars until the small hours of the morning.
On Thursday we had a lie in & then went for some lunch. We got a long tail boat round to the next bay called Ao Railay which we had heard great things about. Pete one of the Bristol boys met us off the boat & we spent the afternoon on the beach, catching up with him. We found out that our friend Zig had got drunk on Samsong at the Koh Tao Underwater Festival & had jumped off the stage. He had cut his side badly & had to be taken to hospital on Koh Samui, luckily he is ok apart from having stitches although it was a deep cut & it could
have been serious. This just proves our point that Samsong is bad news & sends everyone mental when they drink it.
It was a really hot day & when I went in the sea it was like getting into a warm bath, I don't think I have ever been in a sea that warm before. The scenery was beautiful; we were surrounded by large limestone rocks all dotted in the sea & across the land. Krabi, or rather Ao Nang where we were staying was a little disappointing, I felt like I was in Magaluf but with loads of old people & families, it wasn't like the small beach resorts with little wooden verandas & chill out areas with cushions that we had been used to. We got the boat back about 4.30 & got ready to go out.
Dan had been trying to get back to us from Bangkok but hilariously had missed two flights, one on the previous night & another on Thursday morning as he had been out drinking with some friends, (the break dancers we had been out with a few weeks ago in Bangkok).
Thursday night Justin was on the net &
wasn't hungry so Rich, Claire & I went for some food & onto a bar where we were waiting to hear from Dan. Dan called about 9.45pm so Claire went to meet him. Rich & I got chatting to this guy at the bar, Jules, he was an Investment Banker from London & told us his hotel room was costing 500 pound a night, (we thought ours was expensive at 12 pound a night!) He offered to buy us a drink, I said no thanks then Rich pipes up, if you can afford a 500 pound hotel room you can buy me a vodka, so he got us both one.
Claire returned with J & Dan at about 10.30 & they didn't particularly like Jules' name dropping so we moved on to another bar. In transit we witnessed a brawl where two guys were beating this other guy with tables & chairs, there was blood everywhere. Claire had to put him in the recovery position & try to control his bleeding while I got someone to call an ambulance. I was just so glad it wasn't one of our boys!
J went home shortly after as he was tired & Dan, Claire, Rich & I stayed at the bar playing pool, drinking, singing & dancing, the bar closed at 3.30am so I decided to go home. The other three went to a club, (they dropped me off in the taxi on the way back). They came home at 6am after Dan had spent 70 pound on paintings as he was drunk & Rich had told the man in the art shop he was a painter, I thought his was so funny.
Pete met us at our hotel at about 9.30am & we got a tuk tuk to a tourist info place where we waited for about an hour before getting a minibus to Kata in Phuket.
We got a minibus to Kata in Phuket at 10.30am on Friday where Claire's friend Lee lives & works as a diving instructor, there was six of us by now; Dan, Rich, J, Claire, Pete & I.
