Koala
This was taken in my Aunty and Uncles back garden in Brisbane! Well it seems ages since I wrote on here, apologies to those who have been requesting updates! Have been quite busy....Photography course I mentioned in my last blog has been fab, despite the old lady who only went to learn how to take pictures of her cats, who attached herself to me! Seriously has been good and prob going to do some kind of follow up course, off on a night shoot in the city next week, and has lead me to make some serious lfe realisations.......(cant go on without telling everyone that doesnt know already.........) I am going to COME HOME and start a business selling my images, not worked out all the details yet but that is the general plan. But I wouldnt really be me if I didnt do copious amounts of travelling on the way SO....... here's the plan:
End August: Leave Oz, go back to Indonesia for a cple weeks tripping around Bali and Lombok to try and see more than the beach and bar this time.
Aug/Oct - Go to Thailand (west coast island + Krabi) for 3 weeks ish with a friend from Oz
Oct - Go on a trip from
HK to Beijing with Intrepid with Sarah from home.
Oct/Nov - Trip from Beijing to katmandu through Tibet and go to EVEREST base camp! Very excited.
Nov - 2 week trek in Nepal (some serious exercise to be done in the meantime believe me, getting out of breath walking up hills in Sydney just isnt going to cut it in Nepal)
Nov/Dec - Trip from Katmandu - Delhi through rest of Nepal and see Taj Mahal, ghats at Varanasi etc
Dec - India for 3 weeks approx, staying in heritage forts, camel treks in desert. I know I know you all hate me.
Dec 19th - HOME Going to be absolutely knackered by the time done all that but am looking forward to taking loads of good pics in the meantime and chilling at home for Christmas (and the Bucks for all the peeps who know what that means!)
SO...any suggestions/help for photography business idea greatly appreciated!!!!
Anyway Sydney life:
Middle of Feb saw Chinese NYE - year of the Pig, never really been a big thing at home (well not that it really would be in Wickham hey!) but was a
Surfer near Tamarama
Bring on the bra boys! massive parade down George St (biggest street in the city), some very enthusiastic dragons, amazing costumes and scary makeup! Thats one of th great things about Sydney, it is very cosmopolitan and there is always something like this going on that you can go and see and take part in.
Finished my job that I had been doing since NYE (on my last day went to Summit bar - that the photos are from here), and had a few weeks doing temp jobs at the Opera House, David Jones (dept store like Selfridges), was SO over the job hunt, but glad I held out for the right one, as have just started working at Premiere Global Solutions, a web and audio conferencing company, as a sales coordinator, the people are lovely, relaxed working enviornment and not the kind of work that makes you wish your life away so all good really. They are even cool about me taking 2 weeks off in July to do some travelling in Oz.
While the weather was still blazing (summer is "officially" over here now) Rachel and I went to 'Tropfest' the biggest short film festival in the world (see photos), set in The
Domain park in the city. Everyone gets there in the afternoon, takes rugs and picnics and there is entertainment till the evening when they show the films on the massive screen, then you can vote for the winner....Wicked day except the queueing for the bar 😉
My friend managed to get her hands on some free tickets for a concert by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra playing Brahms at the Opera house, so I have been getting my bit of culture in too! The same week I went to another parade in the city, perhaps an understatement to say it was a little diffferent to the Chinese NYE, this time was MARDI GRAS! There was some spectacular things, some very (unsurprisingly) camp things, some fantastic things and some things that were just wrong wrong wrong! It was held on Oxford St the gay mecca in Sydney and they were expecting a million and half people and it felt like it! Was ab hectic!! But some of the floats, costumes and dance routines ( the lifeguards were particularly impressive in more than one way!) were very impressive. It was certainly....an experience!
I had a really lovely birthday last weekend......
