Dinner @ HomeDinner @ HomeDinner @ Home

What a typical dinner looks like at home, thanks to the live-in housemaid. A bit oily for my taste but the seafood and vegetables are typically purchased fresh every day at the market - something Vancouverites should adopt too!
We had ice-cream! Tsk tsk, I don't know what you were expecting to read after the title!

Actually, before that we bummed out at home until afternoon because it was hot, and then we were dropped off at a subway station to make our way to Huai Hai Lu (Road) to shop and poke around. We were going to take a taxi there but I insisted on trying the subway which wasn't a great idea but an adventure nonetheless: Candy can't really read Chinese so poor Flo had to open up the map like a tourist and figure out which stop we needed, and then which line it was since it wasn't labelled or colour-coded on the map (boo hoo), and the $#@% "lady" at the ticket window didn't help, just grunted and took my money for tickets when I tried to ask her where to go. We did manage to make it without getting lost, so hurray for my navigation skills! :D Lots of people eyeing us (and other girls) up and down in the subway so a bit of 'eeeek' but that's Asian culture for you.

We shopped for a bit but went home quickly since Candy

All these people NOT looking lost... unlike us >.< Yup, taxi for the rest of the stay in Shanghai!
wasn't feeling well and of course didn't tell me until we were there >.< We stopped for bubble tea on the way back to cool off, they have very trendy cafes with equally trendy prices - close to Canadian ones!

Went out for dinner later in the evening, and then strolled along a cobblestone road lined with cafes and pubs with plenty of outdoor seating. It's packed with people and couples especially, looks like it's the place to go for a hot date and people-gazing. Lots of tourists as well, and the vibe was very "cool". We went for ice-cream at "Ven-ice" (har har clever name) and it was a huge ripoff, the bill came to double what some of our fancy dinners have been O_o And Candy wants to go back to that area tomorrow... ahhhh... my wallet!!

Will post up photos later today, didn't have time to download them off the digicam yet.

Toodles!

Bubble tea even in Shanghai... trendy = overpriced again but my jasmine green tea was excellent. The cakes were a bit tired though...
