Namaste!
Time for another update! The whole family left, and that also means we don’t have a lot of time anymore left in Nepal this year! It will be difficult to leave this country, to get used to Belgium again, to find our way there, and to prepare our wedding and trip to USA next summer!
But the months in Nepal were great; we had a lot of visitors, and made lots of friends again! And the most special of course, was our wedding!
The two families in Fishling (my parents, sister and brother in law and cousin) all in Fishling. A bit strange the first moment, the two cultures are very different, and it needs some time to get used to that! A lot of questions from both sides, but we made a lot of fun! And on Sunday morning, the wedding! All on the rooftop, in our wedding clothes, for the Tika’s. Kalu is from the Gurung cast, so we got the white tika, made from yoghurt and rice! A lot of blessings come with that tika, like lots of children, take care of each other… After Kalu his parents we asked my parents to give a tika, and
so they did! With the tika we had to drink some fresh milk. A very simple wedding ceremony, but with a lot of good and warm feelings.
After the wedding our van came to get us all to go to Pokhara. For some of Kalu his brothers and sisters the first time in that beautiful city, and we all enjoyed! Celebrating the wedding, my birthday and new years evening and the Gurung new year (Dec 30) in Nepali and Belgium style mixed (western food, restaurant, and Nepali cultural dance). Kalu and I tried as much as possible to help both families to understand each other.
We all stayed in a nice Hotel, and in between all the strikes that were going on, tried to see a lot. The beautiful Himalaya from Sarangkot, the temple in the lake …
The day to go back to Kathmandu … Strike, everything closed, no way out of Pokhara, everywhere buses or trucks closing the roads … so the waiting started until finally in the late afternoon, we could leave! A long ride at night, a bit scary in the mountains, one stop in Fishling where Kalu’s sisters were staying for the night, and finally
we made it back to Thamel! Lucky, because the next day was our party and a lot of people would be there! And so it was, a big success! And also the children from OHC had a blast! With a lot of food, everybody danced, we got a lot of nice blessings again, and a very warm feeling from all those friends we have here in Nepal!
And not only in Nepal, Kalu and I got so many mails and cards from everywhere in the world, from most unexpected people we met trough those 4 years together, and from family and friends we care about so much!
A whole week party, the families together, we couldn’t dream about a better way to celebrate our love and future together!
But it also took a lot of energy, so we needed some days of rest. Sam left to New Zealand, Katrijn and Stijn back to Belgium, Kalu his family to Fishling, and we stayed in Thamel with my parents. Some more visits to the beautiful places in Kathmandu, and a nice trip to Chitwan, the terrai in the south of Nepal! The ‘jungle’ with his own villages, way of building houses, tribes,
… no mountains, just some Himalaya far away, but lots of wild animals!
And we saw a lot of them! Lots of Crocodiles, rhino’s, elephants, deers, monkeys… And very good weather! A big success and a nice last trip for my parents!
And now time to start studying hard, the Nepali writing, and to go to OHC, they haven’t seen me a lot the last weeks! It is a very strange feeling these are our last weeks here, double feeling… But of course we will get used again to Belgium and find our way there, and make another great wedding there! And then we can show you all the pictures, they say much more than words! We are very happy, Kalu and I, had a wedding we dreamed of, enjoyed it so so much! A beautiful wedding, for a beautiful life together!
Thank you all for the nice wishes and blessings, it means a lot to us!
