Today was a long day of travelling. We left our hostel about 10am and headed into Sydney. We headed straight to the post office to post home clothes and hiking boots that we would'nt need in Thailand. Unlike England, lots of none touristy shops and amenities close at dinner time on Saturday in Sydney. After having some lunch we headed to
Sydney Airport. Our flight to
Bangkok took nearly nine hours. When we landed we caught a very cheap taxi to our hotel. We'd been told that the airport would be pretty hectic and that we'd be pestered by people when we arrived - we didn't get bothered once, and it was all pretty straight forward. On the way from the airport, our taxi driver was feeling just a little bit sleepy. Infact, thats a lie, he was very sleepy. He could barely keep his eyes open! He sat in the middle lane of the highway and weaved all over the place. Phil had to keep taking to him to keep him awake! Scary stuff.
We'd survived the taxi ride, and all was going well, only too well, so something did have to go a miss. When we arrived at the hotel which we'd booked and payed for 6 months ago, they had no record of our reservation and no rooms free! Instead they sent us to their sister hotel where we still had to pay, even though we had printed proof of our reservation. The hotel was obviously dated and needed a bit of a revamp, the reception smelt funny and the wallpaper in our room was peeling off. However our room was clean and didn't smell - just what we needed and we were more than happy to finally be able to get to sleep! Oh and we were on the 17th floor - with great views of Bangkoks busy streets, lights, and skyscrapers.
