My flights all went well. I met a really nice girl in Boston who took me under her wing and we went down to Harvard \square and walked around for a while. Boston is a great city...may be someplace that would be fun to visit again. I arrived in Zurich on time. I got a cappucino and looked into getting an earlier flight to Paris. I spent enough time and was tired from my day allready that I did not go and explore Zurich (sorry Susan). It looked beautiful from the plane though. The land reminded me of a painting, if I had studied more I might remember what painting it is.
The flight to Paris was over an hour late so we arrived around 2:00pm. I made my way to the baggage claim (there was only one for all flights), and waited and waited and waited. It turns out I should have trusted my gut and carried my bag on. I read somewhere that one bag on every flight does not make it to it's destination. I was on three different flights, the odds were not in my favor. So it's a good thing that I brought a change of clothing and my toothbrush in my carry-on. Swiss Air informed me that what ever I needed to buy, to save the receipt and they would reimburse me. Time to go shopping!
When I finally made it out of the airport in Paris, I took the subway to Gare de Nord(one of the many main train stations) and reserved my ticket for the night train to Munich. Then I wandered around the staion, I was still in the Subway part, trying to figure out how to get to Gare de l'est. Apparantly, my timetalbe info that Eurail sent me was wrong. A noce gentleman helped me out(I was wary at forst, but I'm still here). Then I continued to wander around Gare de l'este. Another guy walks up to me and helps me out. Since I had a few hours to kill, Marco and I get a drink, he has oj and I have a Coke. He helps me find an Internet cafe and I check my E-mail. Amy had flown into Paris and was at the Gare de l'este, waiting for me! The prospect of talking to someone that understood me lifted my spirits. We finally found each other at a cafe on the corner of the road outside of the train station. Marco makes his way home and we head out for some dinner.
I must say now that I handled the day and all it's bumps pretty well. I had been running on one hour of sleep(Swiss air is not that comfortable) and the night before had only gotten five hours. We sat at another corner cafe and had a Belgium beer. Very good beer! I know even after spending that frustrating day that Paris will be my favorite place on our trip. I am excited to go back. We got some advice on some good shopping form a guy at the train staion. If I don't get my bag, I will have many new clothes from many different places. That wouldn't be so bad...
Okay so no making fun of my spelling errors, everyone makes mistakes (SwissAir), no one's perfect(one fo the airports between here and Ohare).
