Laos...the land of a million elephants or 1 ATM.....
So after the long boat journey we stopped of in Luang Prabang for 4 nights. It was probably a bit longer than we should have but this little town was very relaxing and the days passed by without us really noticing how long we actually stayed there.
The highlight was the trip to the waterfall. The waterfall was about 50 meters high i reckon although it was probably higher than that. The pools were lime green and the water nice and cool. Diving into one of the pools from a 3 or 4 meter high waterfall was great craic.

The day after that i went on a bike ride out the road where the waterfall was. We had passed many villages on a bumpy stoney dusty road that i wanted to check out so i headed off on a little bike. i didnt think a mountain bike was necessary as the roads didnt seem too bad in the 4x4 jeep the day before.....BIG mistake!!! it took me 2 hours to travel about 3 miles the roads were that bad!!! it was all uphill too which i didnt remember from the day before. i dunno how the bike didnt get a puncture. It was tough going but i felt like a celebrity coz everyone was waving at me and saying hello and the kids were running up to me wanting "hi fives" (i was going that slow) Anyway i passed through only 1 village but it was nice just sitting there wathching the locals doing nothing coz it was so hot. some of them were in the fields working on the crops...it looked like torture. Although they were all looking at me probably thinking the same thing coz on my way home some of the local kids decided they would hitch a lift on the back of my bike. They had great craic.....i was absolutely nackered going up and down hills in 35c heat going slower than walking pace. It was fun though and all the locals seemed to have a good laugh about it. Back to town that night for a well deserved hour long massage for 3 euros....great stuff!!
The rest of my time here was uneventful and lazy. The bars all closed at midnight but on friday night we went to the local disco. It was a bit strange. The first 2 hours were filled by local bands all playing utter rubish love rock songs in english (ronaon keating covers included) and in thai and the last hour with good dance music. just as were we getting into the swing of things the place closed at 12....ah well.
This was a cool little relaxed town with a night market that had amazing silk designed robes selling very cheaply along with alot of other col things. It had alot of french style cafes also along the main street where were perfect for evening meals and chilling out. Its kinda like a bigger version of pai.
You should check it out!
