So finally my time in New zealand came to an end. I spent the last couple of days in Aukland before i flew off again. Aukland was a pretty nice city but again a bit dead at night apart fromt he weekend. I said good luck to the Danes and i just want to say to Martin Jonas and Kristen i had a great time risking life and limb every day with you lads and thanks a million! Denmark is yet another country i now have to visit when i get home for a few drinks(im gonna need another year off for al the visits i have to do).I also met Sarah who showed me some of Aukland after the guys left and put up with me for a few days. So thank you Sarah for ... read more

So after a day of caving where we went 1.5km down into a cave pushing and dragging oursleves through tiny holes, mud and streams, which was great craic. There were a few older women about 45 or 50 with us and all they did was complain they couldnt do anything....what the hell they were doing down here i had no idea but they didnt spoil it for us as we just went on without them and left the poor guide to deal with them. Next stop was the very north of New Zealand to the bay of islands. Here we chilled out at a nice little hostel and booked a swim with the local dolphins in the bay. So up early the next morning we jump onto the boat and head out. After about 1.5 hours ... read more

So finally we arrive at wellington on the north island. After a few days there and visiting a very impressive museum we head north for some more neck breaking activities. Lake Taupo was our destination and our (martin an i ) first sky dive. So finally the day arrives and we drive up to the small airplane hanger. I wasnt really that nervous at all as we signed(our lives away) in and got into our suits. I suppose the first thoughts of doubt entered my head when we were 17,000 feet above the ground and the door slides open. I was second in line and watching the girl infront of me a she disappeared in a millisecond out the door.....feck....i thought(or something less publishable). As i stood at the door attached to the guy i cant ... read more

After the 2nd stint in queenstown it was time to head north to the north island but plenty so see on the way. We decided to head for Franz Josef glacier. About 5 hours later and going the woçrong way for a while we arrived. The town is a dead one horse town with the odd passing tourist and thats about it, but we didnt expect much more to be honest. Next morning we arrive at the glacier nd i have to say it was very impressive. It was just a huge mass of moving ice which could move up to 1 meter forwards or backward a day!!! The ice was very compact and emitted a blue light from it. There were many people climbing it on guided tours so we decided to go over ... read more

After Milford sound we dicided to drive directly to the bottom of the south island and to Ivercargil. We arrive 10 minutes before last checkin and grabbed a quick snack before heading out....it was saturday after all. Down here there werent many tourists at all and those who were down here in our hostel anyway were the "ealy to bed and early riser" kind.....thankfully there were none of those in our car. It was a large town maybe the size of dundalk but the night life was more comparable with Ardee im afraid! We wandered round for a while asking where it i was all happening and we eventualy found a club. This was a small local town with a small local town mentality. We were getting a few curious looks but nothing to bad ... read more

Sounds of Milford Australasia » New Zealand » South Island » Milford Sound By ChrisWhelan April 8th 2007To cool our feet from all the treking we visited Milford sound the next day. It was again spectacular from start to finish. You could drink from the fresh waterfalls but filling your glass was a soaking. The town where we stayed was Te Anau. After checking it out friday night it was a ghost town so we reckoned saturday would be no different so we decided to head to the very south of New Zealand.......... read more

Its was a 50km trekk with 2 nights spent in "lodges". We set off on the track a bit late, around midday with a 16 km trekk and a 1200 meter climb ahead of us. The first hour and half were fine and everyone was in a chirpy mood as the scenery was great and the trekk easy so far. We were making good time when the climbing started. It got tough.....really bloody tough ... read more

So on to some new adverntures in the land of the Kiwi, New Zealand. I landed in Queenstown which was a great introduction to the country. This little town has it all. Theres only about 6000 people here but id say that many tourists if not more again! You can what ever you want here. Bungy about 4 or 5 different places including one at 143meters....not a chance!!!Rafting, sky diving river boarding, hang gliding. paragliding, luging and about 100 different other activities. Along with that this tiny town had something like 47 bars. Every night there was a party going on with bus loads of tourists arriving every day, and this was low season!!! Some bars had crazy promotions like free beer, but you only every got 1 beer coz of the crush to get to ... read more

So i arrive finally in sydney with 6 days left to spare. I have to say i was very impressed with this place and it would be a great place to live. Sydeny is a very nice city and the bridge and harbour are very impressive. Its very diverse and each area of the city is different from the next. I also visited Bondi and Manly beaches. Bondi wasnt as impressive as its reputation but i suppose its the place to go if you like surfing. But the first day i went it was raining so i suppose thats why it was a bit crap. Manly was actually a much nicer beach and town i thought. I stayed in Kingcross which is where alot of the backpackers stayed, it had alot of bars and clubs ... read more

(ive have updated this blog at the end incase you have already read it)So after another loong bus journey i arrive in Brisbane on St Patricks Day at around 1pm. Now anyone who knows the traditions of this day especially to an irish person will know that this is extremely late in the day to try to get into a bar back home but since we were in Brisbane i thought it might be a bit easier.....eh WRONG! I ran down to the hostel (passing lots and lots of people of every race and culture dressed in green singing and laughing which just made me run even faster) flung the bag in the door, threw on the ireland jersey and was back out on the street running towards the city centre. When i got to the ... read more
