The journey to get to Bangkok wasn't as flawless as I'd hoped. I guess with 3 flights to catch something was bound to go wrong, it just so happened that everything that could have gone wrong, did!
Firstly my domestic flight from Melbourne to Brisbane was delayed by 40 mins. That wouldn't have been an issue but with the flight times as they originally stood, I was pushing my luck to meet my international flight to Singapore. After waiting for ages for my bag at arrivals I hurried to the sky train to connect to the international terminal only to find that it was shut! I hurried over to the booth where you can book shuttle tickets but I was faced with two people who were clearly desendants from sloths. They had no interest in helping me at any normal speed let alone at a hurried one so that I could make my flight. The guy behind the desk couldnt work the computer and instead of asking the other attendant to book my ticket for me, he just sat back and had a chat to her about something not even related! Finally they managed to book me on a bus
but then told me I'd have to wait 20mins! I told them to forget it and jumped in a taxi. The drive was literally 4 mins and yet the driver thought he'd rip me off. Not having time to argue my point I paid him and hurried to check in. I found the desk but the entire airport was empty, just one lonely man at the desk. He said "we're closed!"...how could they be closed? I wasn't there yet! He told me off for being late but after the puppy dog eyes and seeing probably a glass of sweat pouring off me he checked me in and told me to run as the plane was boarding. I got to security and was asked if I'd filled in my departure card...yeah as if I'd have had time to do that!! So, after that I put my bags through the x-ray machine and walked through the barrier. Ovbviously by this time i looked panicked and rushed so the guards decided I must be hiding something and conducted a search! They took swabs of my bags and shoes etc! After that fiasco I made it to the gate just in time and got
on the flight. The flight was running on time and we made it to Singapore without drama. I then had a couple of hours in transit but the airport was awesome! We boarded on time but were told that there was a problem with the baggage system and the bags were being loaded manually, we were to expect a 20minute delay! Then comes a second announcement "We are missing 50bags so please expect a longer delay!"....could anything else go wrong?! I was dreading going through Bangkok airport.
As it happened Bangkok airport was drama free and I met a couple of lads from Kent on my shuttle bus who were staying in my hotel. We had a mutually beneficial relationship actually. They had just started their around the world adventure and were planning on staying inside the safety of the walls in the Bangkok hotel, and I was worrying about walking around on my own so we spent the next few days in each others company exploring the manic city together. We had a great time doing things we wouldnt have done otherwise and I was relatively happy which was unexpected! My hotel room was awesome too so all
was going well. We visited Kao San road which is crazy and dirty but not as buzzing as I presumed but it was still crazy. We also went to the night Markets and bought some souvenirs. After a couple of days I left the lads and ventured to Pattaya with plans to meet up again in Singapore.
Pattaya was a lonely time, I didnt speak to a sole for 2 days in a row before meeting a retired couple to share a beer with! I did manage to do an elephant trek which I loved. I was picked up by an elephant in its tusks and I bottle fed a tiger cub! Awesome.
I was then met in my hotel in Bangkok by Mads! The girl I travelled NZ with! It was so unreal to see her and be able to catch up and talk about EVERYTHING! We had such a laugh for a few days before my tour started. She helped me to deal with the dramas associated with getting my suit tailored which was good as the lads I'd met in Bangkok before, who I had started my tailor experience with, had left me to fend for myself! We went crazy at the markets anbd bought some silly fisherman pants. Mads crashed in my hotel room until I checked into the hotel from which my tour left. Mads decided she'd book to go to the same place as I was going to- Krabi, so that we could spend a few more days together.
