Hello,
Just to let you all know we´re still going. Now in Cusco our slightly pre-halfway point. Planning to spend a few days here, some off the bikes. There seems to be loads of internet around so hopefully I can find a better one than here and upload some more pics! And update on some of the more adventerous tales of the trips we´ve been up and down on these last few days!
One most amazing day that I´m sure shall be talked about in more detail shortly! Everything a days mountain biking should and could be. Quite fantastic, not for the faint hearted. Otherwise its been fabulous road touring with stunning views, travelling the land seeing the terrainclimate balance changing from really quite barren arid lands to the now much more lush, green valleys. You can see why Mr Inca and co fancied this spot particularly. Already found, and climbed on one of his gates and had a wonder through some remaining walls of one of his towns. All good stuff.
Alls good and well. The people here have been top, as always, think we´re nuts keep trying to get us back on the main roads or
even buses! Tho to be fair if you´d seen us as we were you´d be suggesting the bus too!
The weather is certainly interesting, I´m on my second layer of skin for tha majority of my exposed body and Dom is still trying to get the elasticity and feeling back in the tips of his thumbs.
As anyone still reading this had to put up with my hungover personnel ramblings a week or so ago; I´m managing to certainly see the advantage of regaining a wider perspective, even if there is still a massive force warping it all spiralling to a point. Still all good, and I´m just trying to get used to that. Much happier in the most part, and even feel a little silly that I haven´t always been of late. Funny how things go, strange yet universally (globably I supose) normal.
Ok that´ll do for now. In Cusco and staying at Loki hostel, great little place. Converted courtyard colonial building I guess. On a SERIOUS hill. We arrived yesterday, a typical last 15 km into a relatively big city. Smelly, smoggy, minibuses fighting you for the kerb, pulling in and out and infront of
Inca Gateway
My camera only had a 30sec timer. Should have run! you. Find the centre, find our bearings. Actually my seat undid itself so I was looking at the sky for most of it. Found the street the hostel was on. Three or four policeguards at the bottom saw us coming. Huge laghter and geers as they made way and beckoned us to give it ago. To thier amazment we did, thinking after what we´ve done we could take pretty much anything. Dom made it to about 5m before hostel door, I was 5 behind that. 20%, actually its nuts. Really steep and cobbeled. Totally breathless like only once before on this trip. Still the dude at the door helped Doms bike in and we soon enough recovered. The most amazing showers, and even bacon and eggs this morning! Mmm. Breakfast in Peru is a fast. Chicken bit on plate of rice generally. Most welcome before our ridiculous day but generally not what your after in morning when you´re pretty sure you´ll have it for lunch and dinner aswell! Guinea pig yesterday, I had mine whole which proved to be a bit difficult, but am pretty much feeling better now.
Good fruit. How good are Mangos? Very! Normally grab a
Hills
Lots of em few from a market cycle out of town and find a stone to sit on and peel our mangos in unison. That first taste, magic. Apart from the shower at this place last night I haven´t sensed pleasure like that since the final whistle in the Scotland France game. So the mangos are good, the scenery stunning, fitness good, weather varied, Incas about, breakfast non-existant, the wind a bugger, the road ahead looks a bit patchy to say the least. Atleast the way we want to go! Infact our thinking about the Royal Inca Road as a possible nother mission. Is a hiking trail. The Incas used to run it. Sounds great, not sure about scree slopes and bikes tho. May try and find some better maps here in Cusco. Still should be fantastic whatever way we go.
So, cheers to all for reading, pictures will come soon, and a little story or two.
Ta Muchas (my spanish is coming on, you see! Pretty good at Ola´s by now. My Dog´s improving too.)
Alot more ´Gingos´ in peru. As in greetings not as in more folk like us. Dont remember any in Bolivia! Ramble Ramble, better get
