Hi, I want to visit New York City, but I want to avoid the masses of people that come when the US schools are out (I know there are always tons of people, but it'll just be a little bit less) So I was wondering if someone could let me know when the US students get out of school for the summer, and when they start again! Also for the University kids!! Thanks!! 😊
Reply to this It actually depends on where the schools are located. West coast schools usually are out between mid-June and to late-August, east coast schools are usually out between mid-May and early-August. Winter break is the last two weeks in December. Universities follow a fairly similar schedule going from either late-August to early-May, or late-September to early-June. University spring break's are the two weeks mid-March.
So in essence, June-August and the two weeks mid-March are when
mostkids are out of school.
Reply to this So would they be back in school around August 13th or so, or is that too soon??
Reply to this Schools are out between June to August, and even though tourists pour in, the city doesn't get very crowded. Because thousands of New Yorkers make it a point to leave the city during the summer weekends. Summer shares, the Hamptons, Jersey Shore beckon. So you should be fine during the summer. Can't say the same about December.
Reply to this School ending and starting times are staggered throughout the country....so tourists will be in NYC different weeks during the summer.
Schools in the south get out sometimes as early as the end of May and go back early August.
Students in New York and most parts of the north east won't get out of school until the end of June and go back to school the day after Labor Day (usually). As the previous poster stated, at least in the summer you've got plenty of locals that vacate the city and head out to the beaches, but you will have an influx of other tourists there.
