Any thoughts on what security will be like to travel sichuan, chengdu and the west of china and possibly into tibet in june? Will it be hard for a foreigner to go there due to recent events in Tibet?

Hey there...

I have been talking with some people here and the results are skewed. Some say travelling there will be nice an beautiful that time of year and that security will not be a problem. Some other people say that as a foreigner, it will be possible that one would get turned away upon trying to enter the west of china. People have been saying it will be impossible to travel to Tibet. I have no idea... any thoughts?!
Any idea on where to travel in this country? I have been living in beijing since january and have 3 weeks off in June.

Hi,

I was planning a trip to Nepal and Tibet for October and had made a couple connections with an agency to get me into Tibet. I was planning on travelling from Kathmandu. Right after the recent unrest I received a message from this agency that they would be unable to sponsor tourists to Tibet until the unrest was over. I don't know if it would be any easier for you if you are already in China. I would like to know how you make out. Are you planning on flying to Tibet? Or train? What route would you take?
