What are the policies regarding traveling from buenos aires into rio
16 years ago, March 31st 2008 No: 1 Msg: #31304
Hey if anyone can help me i would greatly appreacite it. I'm flying into buenos aires and staying there for about a week than planning on heading to iguazu falls and than into brazil heading to the coast and working my way north into Rio and staying there for a wouple weeks till i fly home. My question is: Do i need to get a visa to enter into brazil coming from argentina or will they just let me pass through at the border? I know a visa is not needed to enter into argentina but what about crossing the border? Can anyone help me with that?

Also what are some cool places and things to do in buenos aires? good/cheap hostels/hotels? best way to travel from buenos aires into brazil and to iguzu falls?

I know this is a lot but if you guys would help me out I would be stoked. If you ever come out to hawaii ill hook you up with some free surf lessons 😊

Hi Chris,

If you are from the US, you need a visa to enter Brazil. I strongly recommend you do it in the US, before flying. If you do it at the border it's more expensive, they give you only 30 days and there is also a chance you'll find a queue.

Hope that helps.

Ana,
Hey yes, that really helps. I owe you the grand tour of the islands next time you're in hawaii.

Have you done the argentina to brazil thing? Reply to this

Hi Chris,

If you're flying to Buenos Aires and want to see the Iguazu falls, the cheapest way is take a bus (Buenos Aires -> Puerto Iguazu). There is no need to book the bus in advance. One in BA, ask the hostel about it, they'll have this information for sure.

Once In Puerto Iguazu, you can see the falls from the Argentinean side. There is lots to see, take an extra memory card for your camera, you'll spend a day there. And take a sunscreen, even if you live in Hawaii, believe me!

From Puerto Iguazu you can take a bus to Foz do Iguacu and cross the border (about 50 min or less). There you can see the Brazilian side of the falls. Same thing: lots to see, etc.

Hope that helps.

Hi Chris,

I didn't stay in a hostel when I went to Buenos Aires, and I can't remember the name of them.

To me the highlights from BA were:

. The architecture in general
. Jardin Japones
. Caminito/La Boca
. Palermo
. Recoleta area (I didn't go to the cemetery though but people say it's nice)
. Puerto Madeiro at night
. San Telmo fair (Sundays)
. Calle Florida
. Tango at the streets
. Freddo ice cream
. Dulce de leche and alfajores (typical sweets)

I'm sure I'm forgetting something here. Take a look at the last blogs from Buenos Aires so you can have an idea:
