Hey there I had a questions on Immunizations.
I am from the USA and I am planning to travel to Sao Paulo. I was wondering if there were specific shots that I am required to get before I go and can you name them if so? I have heard of people getting them but Im not sure if theyre required.
Thank You.
Reply to this Hi Tori,
If you're going to the north of Brazil, the yellow fever shot is required. I've never heard of obligatory shots if you're going to São Paulo and I personally doubt there are any. But double checking is never too much, so you should ask the airline company.
Hope that helps.

Reply to this Tori,
Even if you are not heading up north of Brazil, my advice is to get the yellow fever shot.
Sao Paulo is a "safe zone" about yellow fever, but this little precaution can make a difference !
keep kool,
Rafa
Reply to this I would get a yellow fever shot -- it is transmitted by the same mosquito that transmits dengue fever and there is a major outbreak of dengue in Rio de Janeiro right now. Also for travel to any lesser developed country I would get a Hepatitis A shot.

Reply to this I think yellow fever is a must. Lots of countries will not let you enter unless you have it (or so I have heard). Good news is it is pretty cheap (atleast it was in England) compared to vaccines like Rabies.
Reply to this There are no shot for dengue fever, and in São Paulo the yellow fever one is not required.
You can be calm and relaxed about it, not even the hapatitis A I think is necessary.
Have a good trip,
V.
Reply to this Hello Tori 😊
I cant remember which shots I needed for Brazil.
Look on the website of the World Health Organisation(WHO). That gives information about which immunisations are needed and information about Malaria protection for each country in the world.

Reply to this I wouldn't base it just on what is required. Hepatitis A can be contracted by a fly landing in feces then in your mouth. I suspect even Sao Paulo has some favelas with open sewers and that favela may be close to a restaurant or a market where you eat. Certainly that would be the case in other Brazilian cities I've been to (Rio, Salvador, Recife, Joao Pessoa, Teresina, Belem, Manaus).
You don't want to get Hepatitis A -- won't kill you but will probably ruin your trip as you lose all stength, energy and appetite for at least a month. When I went to Brazil with Peace Corps in the 60s we didn't have a Hep A vaccine -- just gamma globin which was thought to protect against Hep A for six months. I caught it four months after a gamma globin dose. Got stuck in the contagious dissease ward of a Recife hosptial where patients with different contagious diseases shared one toilet. Worse yet, I was stuck in the hospital when a bunch of the Peace Corps folks in Recife got to have dinner with Bobby Kennedy. Now I don't need Hep A shots as I earned my immunity the hard way. Not recommended.
And yellow fever? One shot last ten years. There may be none in Sao Paulo, but you might want to travel elsewhere. There have been some cases in Paraguay recently. And I believe it is required if you decide to go to any of the Amazon states.
