Which trekking boots

Trekking boots for tropical climate - Light weight, ventilated or waterproof leather?

Can anyone offer me advice as to which trekking boots would be most suitable for this tropical climate? I will be spending some time in the jungle as well as mountain trails. I have been told that Gortex is not recommended as in such a high humidity area it will be very hot & may even absorb moisture. So do I go for leather, or lightweight ventilated boots? Can anyone reccomend a particular make & model that work well & what are the pro's & cons of each type?
