Hi,
I'll be doing some volunteer work in Panama this February. Afterwards I'll have five days to kill and I'd like to do so in Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica. Any recommendations for getting from Panama City to Puerto Viejo?
Reply to this Buses in Panama were pretty good in my experience...we drove from David to Almirante from where we went to Bocas del Toro, nice relaxing islands. Not bad either for chilling out! There are buses from Panama City to Almirante too (for example overnight, it's quite a few hours I believe)...maybe on to the border as well, not sure.
But if it's Puerto Viejo you want to go to, you can take a bus to the border (Sixaola) which you cross by foot, then on the other side of the border you catch a bus to Puerto Viejo. At the border you need to show some kind of proof of return travel (i.e. plane ticket), otherwise you may have to buy a busticket there (not a big deal either - you can buy one for about $5).
have fun!
Reply to this Ticabus is the best way. Take the bus from Panama to San Jose. Then at the Coca Cola Market in downtown San Jose take the bus to Puerto Viejo. Don't tell too many people about Puerto Viejo... they might spoil our secret! 😉
- kidding
Regards,
Mike
