Reply to this Hello Topcat,
Greetings from Nepal.
It's nice to hear that you are heading to Tibet via Nepal. To find the process of visa for Tibet/China, you should apply from the reliable agency and you will get Tibet valid visa for maximum 25days which you can use to go to China and ofcourse there won't be any trouble to purchase the Train or plane ticket either beijing or Chengdu and you can get all this at Lhasa.
So, wish you all the best and have a great journey to Nepal and Tibet.
regards Reply to this HI there!
If you are first coming to Nepal. While you are doing some trips in Nepal apply for Tibet Visa. Remember China Visa and Tibet Visa are different. Your Chinese Visa will be cancelled before issuing Tibet Visa if you are doing from Nepal. You need to give atlease 4 days for the tibetan visa.

Email: Reply to this My fiance and I are planning a big trip with a similar Nepal, Tibet, China trip as part of it...the china visa (not for tibet but for the rest of China) was confusing as you have to go through a visa service. We found a very reliable one online that was recommended to us at www.mychinavisa.com - they have a very quick turnaround time and all their forms are up to date (we had to be sure of this as some of the online services were using out of date forms so we checked with the Chinese Embasssy to make sure).
As for the Tibet visa, everythign I've read has said that you have to get a group visa/permit which is best done in Nepal (kathmandu) or wherever you are going to enter from, but beware of scammers (according to lonely planet) - sorry, I know that isn't much help but we're a little vague on that part too.
Good luck!

Reply to this Parts of the previous are correct, but, some are not true. There is difference between a China Visa and a Tibet Visa. The China Visa is valid except Tibet, but it is the base for getting a Tibet Visa. And the better way to get a travel visa in Tibet is a group visa, because as for Chinese laws, every group,(foreigner groups) must has a Chinese guide to accompany with, otherwise the foreigners Can NOT get the permit. So you'd better contact with a travel agency in China to help you handle it.
Reply to this hey, i was planning on doing the same trip but the other was round, from beijing- tibet- nepal- india. but im not to sure about traveling from tibet to nepal? is there trains or do u have to trek? Calvinlee, ur saying that u cant get a tibet visa unless ur ina group?
Reply to this hey, ultomo, the ways to nepal are taking airplane, taking bus, and treking. yes, as foreigners u have to take a group for getting a visa. So you can contact with a travel agency in China, they will help you make a group comprised of many other tourists , find a guide and get the visa just for a few commission. That's ok,everything will going well.hope it helps. I am going to Tibet this March. So if you have any problems, please don't hesitate to contact with me, I am search many kinds of info about how to have a ball in tibet. haha 😊
