I just got the most amazing surprise.
A prisoner I used to write to and visit there has been released.
He was on a life sentence.
I was going to send a Christmas message to his family through the Foreign Prisoners Support Services so googled his name and got a long list of news blogs about his release. I sent him a message instead and now I get emails from him.
Here is one of the news blogs about his release.

If u are interested in writing to or visiting a prisoner and need information about it let me know.

Hello Mike :)

I saw an advertisment in a cafe in Bangkok saying he wanted a visit.
But here is a list on the internet of the ones in the prison I went to who would like letters and visits.

There is more than one prison in Bangkok so u can look on this link at all of them if u want.

If u are going to write to one keep copies of your letters. A lot of letters get lost. Around three out of every 4 in fact.

I got a new penpal because I miss writing letters since the last one now has email.
There is something nicely nostalgic about putting a letter in the snail mail and waiting for a reply.
I chose one who is in prison in Laos because Laos is on my list of places to go. I will visit him when I finally get there if the prison staff let me in.
