However, I've seen people having problems with debt cards that were not from a brazilian bank, so I'm not sure about it. Hotel Santa Clara is in Bairro Peixoto, Copacabana. It looks nice and has a good localization, some blocks from the beach and close enough from sightseeing. As for safety: use common sense. Be careful about having valuables on show, don't hang your camera on your neck! It's safe in most areas to walk around during the day, but there are some places you should avoid at night.
