G'day everyone, my wife and I are off to Japan on the 15th of november for 10 days. We are flying into Nagoya and I would like to base 1st half of our stay in Kyoto. Having a problem getting decent accom. in Kyoto between 16th and 20th for around Y10000 a night. Sugestions? (My wife will be 6 months pregnant so hostels are banned. Private Bathroom prefered) Is it realistic to get into the country and then book accom? as we haven't got a set itinery. Also will the weather be similar to australian winter? We live in the tropics so we are concerned of being caught out.

Hello. I would recommend booking ahead if you are keen for a decent standard on a budget - budget accomodation is difficult to come by in Japan and Kyoto especially gets booked up - we ended up spending the night in an internet cafe as we couldn't afford anywhere that was available one night! K's House is fantastic - they are a hostel but do have double ensuite rooms within your budget. The facilities are immaculate and the communal areas are really nice. They have locations in Kyoto, Tokyo and Hakuba which we stayed at and were brilliant. According to their website they have a place open near Mount Fuji now too. The weather in November will probably be a mixed bag - we had some torrential rain but also some lovely sunny days. Hope this helps - if we can be of any further help just give us a shout. Vikki

Thanks Vikki,
K's looks great however they are like so many budget places in Kyoto ,BOOKED OUT (what is going on in Kyoto that week?) for the dates we require. It looks like we may have to change our plans. We will be staying in the other K's houses in Mt Fuji and Tokyo. Will endeavour to find accom in Kyoto at later date. I am grateful for your offer of assistance and may just take you up on it. By the way I have read a few of Bob's blog entries and found his perspective of us (sic) convicts interesting and amusing. My wife also gets sideways face when I don't listen. Hope you visited our home town of Rainbow Beach when you were in Aussie. Thanks again.
