Hi Stephen,

I only have a suggestion what boat NOT to take, i repeat (for everybody!!!) NOT TO TAKE. THE FRIENDSHIP or GABI, same boat operating under these different names (already a sign) is the worst rip off ever. I didn´t go there myself but friends of my did and they had the worst experience ever. The guide was a alcholist, they fished in protected area, didn´t explain anything and the boat was broken for 3 days so they started the 4th day. My friends reported all this at all the institutions here on Galapagos and hopefully they will do something about these motherf......s
I am here on Galapagos for a while (doing some voluntary work) and every island is different. I go on day trips, sometimes 2 or 3 days but i gotta go back to work so i can´t do a longer trip, maybe at the end? I know there are 8 day trips were you see the northern and southern islands. There are only trips to either of them. In that case, i heard the southern island are beter, Espanola, Floreana, Santa Fe, more animals. It´s also nice to go to Isabella for a few days if you have time. You can do that on your own (there is a boat service for USD 60 vice versa) or take a packet for about USD 160, 170, including tours, hotel and food.

If you have other questions, let me know,

Hi Chads,

There are last minute agencies here in Puerto Ayura on Santa Cruz. I don't know the details but if there are any places open they offer them at a more economice rate. So if you got some time here, you can give it a try. It's like any last minute trip, you have to be flexible. It could be that they don't offer trips to islands you wanna visit, or only have places on luxury boats, etc. etc. If you know when and what you want, i think it's better to book in Quito.
I will go to Isabella this weekend or next week, i will let you know. But i heard San Vicente is good and you also can sleep in tents for 5 USD a night per person (and still use the hot shower of the hotel).

Hey Chads,
I did a boat tour of The Galapagos Island in June for 5 days! It was on the San Jose and it was excellent, I think it was one of the higher end boats, but worth every cent. The food, Tour leader and crew were fantastic, nothing was ever too much trouble. I also spent a few days before and after my trip in Puerto Ayora doing some day dives (as I wanted to get onto an 8 day boat but couldnt within my time frame). The Galapagos is incredible! After backpacking for months the Boat tour was my splurge, and I do not regret a single thing! Have fun! Reply to this
