Besides flying...
Does anyone know of a bus or train or other way that I can get from Chile to Bolivia?
Also, I heard that one needs the Yellow Fever vaccine in order to go back into Chile once you've been in Bolivia....is this true? I don't want to go super far into Bolivia, I just want to see the country a bit 😊
Thank YOU! Reply to this

I have not done it myself, but I heard the train is the best bet. It travels from Calama, Chile to Uyuni, Bolivia. If you plan to go to Bolivia for a short trip do not miss the Salar de Uyuni, this is in southern Bolivia (so in your scope of travel) and is one of the best tours I have ever taken. As far as the train check out his web site http://www.bolivia.freehosting.net/trains.htm
If you have any other questions don't hesitate to ask.

I'm pretty sure you can take a bus or train from northern Chile to Bolivia. I was going to do that but found a cheap flight instead. But I'm pretty sure you don't need a Yellow Fever vaccine in order to get back into Chile, at least I didn't. Reply to this

Thank you so much for your answers. What airline did you take to Boliva? Reply to this

Go from San Pedro de Atacama on a Salar de Uyuni trip to Uyuni, everything is included, food, border crossing, place to sleep and it is amazing. Take the nigth bus from there to La Paz and from La Paz you can take a good bus direct to Arica in Chile in the ultimate north, nice place. Yellow Fever vaccine you don´t need. You also can go from Uyuni to Potosi and from there to La Paz if you got a little bit more time. Reply to this

I flew with LAN, they were great. But if you take a flight to northern Chile then look at Sky airlines also, they usually have pretty cheap Chile flights. Hopes this helps and that you have a great time!!! Reply to this

Hi Jackstar,

I agree with Morg and Christiano - the San Pedro to Uyuni tour is the way to go. The train can be tough going by all accounts. You are looking at about US$75 for 3 days, all inclusive. From there you can head straight up to La Paz via Oruro if you wish, but make sure you take the train to Oruro as the bus is hellish. Getting back a nice way to go is through Copacabana and southern Peru.

Again, no need for Yellow Fever vaccine to get back in - I was never even asked returning from Brasil. If you go up to the Amazon basin (eg Rurrenabaque) you may want to get the vaccine anyway, not for the sake of keeping officials happy but just avoiding the disease as it's pretty nasty.
