Hi Have been there several times. Almost all international flights land in India at odd times. Your best bet is to check out a site called Travel India Smart. They have a question/answer section and I find they respond by email pretty fast. This service is free. I think the url is http://www.travelindiasmart.com/
Good luck

Sherry, The best thing to do is to arrange that you be picked up at the airport and taken to your accommodation/hostel/hotel. I use The Bajaj Indian Homestay (a small international hotel) and have since they opened. My son is heading to India next month and will do just this. He will be picked up at the airport and then taken to The Bajaj for the evening. The service is great, the drivers are all wonderful and the hotel is a perfect small international accommodation, perfect for your first night in India. A safe and comfortable place for women travellers. Here is their web site: http://www.indianhomestay.com/ This hotel is owned by the tour company I use for all my tours in India. If you have any questions or need any travel ideas/tickets etc. they are a good company to deal with. http://www.adventureworldindia.com/
I have been travelling to India with groups (tours for women) since 1994. I highly recommend "Adventure World" and "The Bajaj Indian homestay". Have a great time! Nancy Reply to this

Hi Sherry, Be very careful of advise from people where they are promoting a particular hotel or travel operator. I think these are people advertising their own business pretending to be satisfied customers. When looking for information on India from a tourists point of view I find that almost 90% of the websites are from tour operators, hotels etc trying to get business. For information of a historical nature for India I would check out the lonely planet but for street smart information on India I found Travel India Smart site very good and practical and they don't recommend any hotel or tour operator. Readers decide for themselves on who and where they want to do business with. Reply to this

Hi Sherry,
We arrived into Delhi in the middle of the night this time last year. We had booked an airport pick up and a room in Delhi Bed and Breakfast. I'm so glad we did, we arrived very late, exhausted and were totally dumb struck by our first taste of India. Perez, our host had waited up for us and smiled and welcomed us as if it was the middle of the day. This welcome was extended from the whole family the next morning and they guided us gently through our first steps in India! It was so much better than staying in a hotel and the food was gorgeous. The only down side I would say is its a little far out of the centre as such. That said Perez will be happy to sort you out with whatever transport you need. Good luck with your trip, India is an amazing place. Check out our blog if you want a taster or some ideas of where to go.
