Holi (in march) is my personal favorite, its like playing paintball with EVERYone on the streets, but not as painful!
Diwali in october is pretty decent too... people light up firecrackers for 1-2 weeks around the festival itself, so quite a noisy time (especially in the north, think they don't celebrate down south).
also, october-nov, and feb-march are good months to visit.. neither too hot nor too cold...
Christmas in India? its a public holiday, but barely anyone celebrates it... you can try Goa and Kerala as they have the highest number of christians in the country, but prices are sky high then....

thanks. i just did a search on holi and it looks good. very messy. where would be the best place to be for this festival?
we did think goa for Christmas simply because we may find other travelers there at that time and although we are not going to India for the English it would be nice to have someone to singing jingles with.

Delhi or somewhere in Rajasthan would be best i think. Just remember to buy a couple of packets of "gulal" (coloured powder) to throw on people the day before.... and watch out if people try to put wet colors (looks like dark paste) on you, coz that sticks for a couple of days... unless of course you don't mind purple ears for a bit...

You should definitely find a whole bunch of travelers in Goa at any time. Winter is quite mild in Goa too, so would make for a good trip around then... Reply to this

There are many festivals in india.I reccomend -------
"Holi'- is the festival of colours, its one day fest.
'Diwali'- is fest of light, its two days fest.
But the longest fest of india is "Durga puja"- its a five days fest.Itusually helds in September last or October.Thos fest mainly takes place in Kolkata. It is fabulous to watch.
If you want to spend your Christmas in india then it should be in Goa. Reply to this

Hi
Rajasthan will be great at time of diwali, specially JAIPUR, the markets will be full of lights and there will be a great time.
They called the Diwali as "festival of lights"
For new year and christmas celebration you can choose udaipur.

Enjoy your time there

Cheers !!
