Hey,
Im planning on going to India in september for a month. I have never been outside the western world so Im expecting a major shock to the system, physically and mentally...

I have read lots of things about India, Goa in particular, and am undecided about Goa, is it TouristVille and provide opportunities to see your next door neighbour walking down the street smiling at you?! Is Goa worth a visit during this time as I know it will be Monsoon. Also is Diu in Gujarat really like Goa 20 years ago? I will be travelling on my own so if anyone wants to hook up just let me know, Im 25, Male, Irish and am very easygoing. Reply to this

My opinion is that goa is pretty toursity. Also the beaches are not all that great. If you want to drink cheap and party its a great place. IF you are looking for authentic India you won't find all that much in Goa except for a few exceptions. I met some people who went to diu and said it was really great. If you are looking for amazing beaches and snorkeling/diving check out the andaman islands. Reply to this

maybe some travelers have different opinions about Goa.. the key here is just go and find out yourself. If you're unsatisfied, then you can share to us what are the things that you didn't like about the place. Reply to this

I've been in India 2 years ago...with a school expedition, it was about 2 months, we've done about 15.000km 😊 so it was a bit fast 😊
I have some really good contacts in India so if u would like to know something more, where to go, or where go sleep (in a rather cheap way) contact me 😊

The beaches of Goa are not that much bad and is a great place for beach adventures. GOa is also one of the best place for partying since the drinks are pretty cheap when compared with other places............The churches of GOa are also worth watching.. I heard from other travellers in India that it was a really laid back fishing town. You can get a ferry but I have heard they are very dangerous and over crowded. You can get very cheap flights from all over India. There is also good surfing in the andamans and you can catch the 3 day ferry from chennai or kolkotta. I took it and it was great. Nothing like spending 3 days on a ship with over 500 indians. Reply to this

Cheers, Im definitely going to check out the Andamans, whats the story with the permit? How long would you suggest staying there and what are the waves like in Kerala>? Reply to this

The permit you automatically get when you buy a flight. IF you go by boat you get it when you arrive. Very easy not a big problem. It just a bunch of buercratic BS. Make sure you get the permit for 30 days. Dont be stupid like me and only get it for 8 days and realize you want to stay longer but it can take 2 days to go, get your permit extended and get back to an island so i realized it was not worth it. I would stay in the andamans for 10-14 days. This is coming from someone who is not a beach person. I freaking loved it. Swam with sea turtles, dugongs, so much sea life. If you are intersted in surfing there are some big spots on little andaman I think. I am sure you can find info about it. I did see a bunch of surfers but I don't surf so I never asked them. NOt sure about the monsoon. You should check up on some weather sites. The monsoon effects different parts of India at different times. However, you should be careful where you go in the water in India during hte monsoon. They have really bad riptides on the west coast (goa, kerala) and a lot of indians die every year. There is no water safety so thats something you may want to look at before surfing. Reply to this

Monsoon will be on its way out in September, especially in Southern India. Like the previous poster said, I'd be wary of the water in September, but as far as being in cities with any kind of decent infrastructure (even by Indian standards) you should be fine. I'll actually be in India in September. If you're planning on seeing Pondicherry or Chennai, we could definitely hook up. Reply to this
