Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan

Travel to Hong Kong and the Mainland. Should I make time for Taiwan?

I am flying into Hong Kong the middle of June and will have five weeks to poke around before I fly to Japan. My best friend lives in Beijing so I'm for sure going to be spending a lot of time on the mainland. My profession deals with architecture and construction so I'm most interested in the big cities (smog and all) although I do enjoy natural sites as well (just not as much as cities).

Here's my question. I'm leaning towards spending three weeks on the mainland, one week in Hong Kong, and one week in Taiwan. Is this a good way to do it? Would it be better to spend more time in mainland China and less in Hong Kong? Or more time in Taiwan and less time on the mainland?

I'm really into Hong Kong cinema (Wong Kar-wai is one of my favorites). Is there any tourism associated with seeing studios and such (like in Hollywood, CA) or is everything pretty much kept private?

Thank you in advance!

Hi Sperle,
Thank you for the advice, but I already made the trip! I didn't make it to Taiwan but I did go make it onto Mainland China, Thailand, and Japan; all really interesting countries and all completely different experiences. Taiwan would be cool though (I heard it has the best food). Maybe next time. Hope all is well Reply to this

morning, Kevic,

it's cool i got your reply. how's your trip to China, Thailand and Japan?
i spent four years in Canada for studying but now i choose back to my hometown, still love China, i am a Chinese, and
decide to do something for my hometown, whatever the culture, busniess, poor area development and so on...could be long time, but do my best, believe in Buddhism.
although i am 23 years only.
time will tell everyting. people will know who you are though time as well.

I suggest spending time in Taiwan. I just spent 2 months there-it's a beautiful island and you can see a lot there in one week. Reply to this
