I'm looking to travel to Thailand from the US by plane. The following questions are pertaining to what I am looking for:

How safe is Thailand and are there any reasonably surrounding areas safe/worth visiting?
What are some really cheap if not free things to do in Thailand?
What would be the best way to get cheap airline tickets to Thailand?
What are some suggestions in regards to what to do in Thailand for those who enjoy the adventure in traveling as well as the culture of different areas?

Any other information apart from this would be great. If anyone can answer any of these questions it would be greatly appreciated. Even the smallest amount of information would be helpful. Thanks!

hi.
for the cheap flight, you may try the http://www.airasia.com/index_ns.htm , you can get a cheaper ticket here.
i think now still no the right time you visit Bangkok, capital of Thailand, because there is a bombing recently.
but you still can visit those islands.. it is safe now... because i just went back from one of the Thailand nice islands. Phuket. are you going alone?
at Phuket, you can rent a motorbike for 150THB per day.
for accomodation, i stayed at Patong Beach Lodge (patong beach is the most happening places)
for Patong Beach Lodge, you can book from Agoda online reservation agent. their price is reasonable and with good services.
and you no need to ask the hotel for airport transfer because they charge you for 700THB per way. so you just need to buy a ticket from the airport counter to the patong beach for one 550THB per car.
for the ground tour package, you can get a lot from there... there is a lot of the counter sell the package there... you have to compare ...
the package i bought are Phi Phi islands and JameBond island.. together is 1600THB. but i not recomene you to buy the PHI PHI. becqause is nothing special for the trip, but JAmes bond islands is very interesting. you can canoeing there.~

Hi,
Thailand is very safe. There is a problem in the South, well away from the more popular areas. All of the cutries to the north, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia etc, are all safe for sensible travellers.
Cheap things in Thailand .... eating is cheap, travel is cheap, shopping is cheap. Sitting on a beautiful beach is free. meeting lovely smiley people is free. learning a new culture is completely free.
I have no dea of how to get cheap airline tickets to Thailand from the US. I would suggest surfing the net for exactly that.
There is so much to do and see in Thailand that you probably won't ever fit it into your schedule.
I live on Phuket and can recommend things to do around the sland and close by but it just depends on your interests.
You'll have a good time, thats for sure. Enjoy and stay safe.
