Hi everyone!
I would be very grateful if someone can advise me if it is better to take a night train or night bus to go from Ho Chi Minh city to Hoi An.
It seems to me that there is no train between HCMC and Hoi An (all the trains that I find go to Hue).
Anyway, which means of transport do you recommend? why?
Shoud I buy the ticket well in advance or is it easy to find a seat the same day or the day before?
Thanks a lot in advance
Xavier
Reply to this Hi Xavier,
Hoi An is a famous tourist point however, it is just a small ancient town so you wont find any direct transportations to get there. If you have time, you can take train from Ho Chi Minh to Hue or Da Nang, from there, you take a bus to Hoi An. In case you want to save time, take a flight to Da Nang. Hoi An is just 30 km away from Da Nang.
If you need any other advices, just find me at: <snip>

Reply to this [replyto=201636 You might be right, the Reunification Express I believe goes through Hue. And Hoi An is a smaller town with respect to Hue. I recommend to fly HCMC to Da-Nang...Hoi An is a short distance from Da-Nang. And internal flights are cheap and saves time. Unless you want to experience train travels over there, which is also my weakness, I recommend to fly. I did fly.
Reply to this Thank you Helenalin and Gangopa!
I would like to take the train to meet locals. I'll be travelling solo and the train is a good place to meet local people.
I will think twice and remake my itinerary following your advice.
Thanks!
Xavier
Reply to this In response to: Msg #201636 should never go by bus. Night train is better. Or just take a flight which is cheap and convenient <snip>

Reply to this Have you been to the Mekong Delta?
A very watery and friendly countryside. Would you like to join the Mekong Delta 5 Days / 4 Nights ?!?
Coconut Town in the Mekong Delta will surely bring you an unforgettable experience of the inland waterways. There is no time to wait; begin the journey by dipping yourself into the truly unspoiled destination of the coconut town, where unique handicrafts are made entirely of coconut, but is yet to be discovered by many local tourist companies. It’s a perfect opportunity to enjoy the cool breeze from the river, cruise between the lush tropical islands, kayak through natural canals, and bike on the quaint village roads, and more excitingly get a homestay experience for those who love off a beaten track style.
Take the time to explore this beautiful land : <snip>
