Help and advice needed for trip to Cambodia in November.
17 years ago, March 25th 2007 No: 1 Msg: #12224
Hi All,

We are planning to go to Cambodia in November. Will we have missed the worst of the wet season? What will the roads be like?

Can we have some tips please on things to see, places to go, food to try/miss and so on.

And any info about visas - can we get one at the border? Or do we need to get one before we leave (NZ passport).

Thanks for all your help, Karen & Colin Reply to this

Dear Karen & Colin,

Here are some good websites which might help you:

1. Travel tip : http://www.tourismindochina.com/traveltips-cambodia.htm
2. Food and Drink : http://www.tourismindochina.com/food.htm
3. Visa to Cambodia : http://www.tourismindochina.com/visa.htm
4. Hotels in Cambodia :
http://www.tourismindochina.com/chp.php?pn=hp2&tc=t2
http://www.tourismindochina.com/chp.php?pn=hp1&tc=t1

Aswering to your questions:

1. November : That is in the dry season, that is the good time to visit Cambodia.
2. The road : it is good, only few roads to Rattanak and Modulkiri at the northern part of Cambodia still has difficulties.
3. Things to do :
In Phnom Penh : Cocktail at the Foreign Correspondents Club of Cambodia, Cyclo Tour, Dinner Cruise on the Mekong, Leather Puppet Theatre, Lunch at the French Ngo "Pour un sourire d'enfant", Visit the National Dance ACademy.
In Siem Reap : ANGKOR BALLOON, Cocktail sunset cruise, Cooking Classes, Enjoy an Elephant ride, Helicopter FLight around Angkor Wat, Private catered Dinner at A temple, Rattan Weaving Villages, Spas in Siem Reap, Temple Trekking.

4. You can get the visa on arrival with some common border check-point : Siem Reap and Phnom Penh Airport, Poipet border(Thailand - Cambodia), and Bavet(Cambodia - Vietnam ). The process will take you 20USD/person with two 3X4 photos.

Yes, the worst of the wet season is over. Most of the roads to main tourist centers are paved so not really an issue. The unpaved roads to Ratanakiri and Mondolkiri should be fine by then.

As for places to visit, food to eat, look in a guide book, they will all be listed.

Visa on arrival at the main land crossings and at airports, for further visa information click here.

Hope this helps…

We went in June 2007. Visa on arrival at Phnom Penh airport US$20 ( or $25 ?) . One picture required.

In Siem Reap, we stayed at Golden Temple Villa. Very comfortable & safe, 5 min walk to town. www.goldentemplevilla.com
Other budget place www.angkorvilla.com (you can volunteer to teach english in their Savong School)
Tuk Tuk we hired : www.angkortransport.blogspot.com

Dear Karen and Colin,

Wish you both enjoy the trip. I'm still planning for my trip to Cambodia. By the way, i want to share something here with you . I heard some people said that it takes time to get our visa if we apply at the border. My friend recommended me this Cambodian Embassy's official e-visa application website: http://www.evisa.mfaic.gov.kh
i had visited the site and it seems that the visa will be completed within 3 business days. I think i will give it a try during my trip to Cambodia.

Regards,
