Airport transfers VS renting a car

Crazy for 2 women to rent a car?
9 years ago, September 25th 2014 No: 1 Msg: #185358
My step daughter and I are going to Costa Rica (Playas del Coco) at the end of October. Airport transfers appear to be $60.00 one way.
One company said it will do round trip if we pay $70.00 cash when they pick us up and it will include round trip costs.
Does this sound reasonable? Seems like with the cost of tours it may be more reasonable to rent a car. Are we crazy to do that, just two women? Is it likely that the round trip will never happen paying them cash? Has anyone had experience with Coco tours Costa Rica?
Appreciate any info! Reply to this

Hi Debbie,

Are you going to the playas del coco in Guanacaste? If so, I have never taken the airport shuttle only a cab and a cab is $50 one way for both of you. Now if you wanted to rent a car you can but I would suggest getting a gps that they can rent to you when you pick up the car. A gps is a must because the streets do not have any street signs on them so it is very easy to get lost for your first time on the roads. Plus all of the cars are standard so make sure you know how to drive standard and if you don't know how to drive standard then you can pay more money for an automatic car. Cars rent for about $40 with you insurance a day and gas is about $1.40 a Litre. If you are flying into Liberia airport, Playas Del Coco is only a 20 min drive so if you are flying in at night I would not suggest renting a car and driving the roads at night because there are not that many lights. But during the day you should have no problems renting a car and getting to playa del coco. Hope this helped a little. Reply to this
