South Thailand - where to go?

We will be meeting friends for three weeks in South Thailand in July, before starting a new chapter of our lives overseas. While we have lived in Thailand and been to Phuket, Phi Phi, Krabi and Hat Yai, there is a lot we haven't seen. Where should we go?

To let you know a little about us, we spent two years living in Thailand and have traveled to 6 other countries throughout SEA. We are in our late twenties and do party on occasion, but more at a laid back Reggae beach bar and never at a club. Our friends have been to North Thailand once to visit us and also traveled with us in Indonesia. Some of the things we want to do with them is enjoy the natural beauty of the area and experience local culture (especially food). We do not want to be anywhere that is over the top busy such as Kata, Phuket, or expensive such as Nai Harn Phuket, but we don't want to be staying in the middle of nowhere either. The right balance between a chill party scene, lots of beauty and great, cheap local food plus the freedom to explore by motorbike is what we are looking for. If there are cheap yoga classes around all the better! We really appreciate the suggestions! Reply to this

I was waiting for others who are more familiar with all the options to respond as I've only been to Songkhla and Railey Beach in the south of Thailand, the most recent being 2009. I've read many recent blogs of those traveling the many islands on both coasts, so that might be a start, and then when you read about an intriguing island, you can contact the blogger directly. I look forward to reading about your decision. Reply to this
