advice please!

Hi All,

While we are in Japan we want to visit Mt Fuji, but not as a day trip from Tokyo. We'd like to stay a night or two in the area and either take a tour or something - we still have to research this ourselves - maybe a bus up as far as you can drive? I know I sound a bit vague but we are 'plan-less' at the moment.

I guess what we are after is recommendations of places to stay (hostels) and advice on the best way to see the mountain, and possibly some lakes too.

We are travelling with young children and so dont plan on climbing, but we would like to get as far up as we can. If there is a town to base ourselves in that will also give us good view, or the potential for a good view, that would be awesome. The kids get us up early so we should be up before any haze appears!

I think I also read something about caves??

Again, apologies for our vagueness. Fill us in on the details!!

Thanks.

Oh, and if you have any advice, suggestions, recommendations, hostels to check out etc etc for other places in Japan, we'd love to hear from you. The rough plan is Mt Fuji - Kyoto - Hiroshima - Takayama / Kanazawa, plus wherever in between we happen to stop. We only have 3 weeks though. Reply to this

Hi Karen,

K's House Mt Fuji might be worth checking out. I haven't stayed there myself, but it looks pretty handy to facilities - and there's free wifi :-)

You'll be able to get a bus to the 5th station on Mt Fuji (I think as far as public vehicles go).

I'd suggest looking into one of the JR rail passes, but you have to buy them outside Japan. Reply to this

I've stayed at the Kyoto branch of j-hoppers.

They also have one in Hiroshima and Takayama.

Thanks Jo! We already have our JR Passes, or the vouchers for them at least. I've just checked out K's House Mt Fuji, looks great, I'll send them a booking request. About to check out j-hoppers... Reply to this
