Hi everyone,
It's been a while since i last posted on here. But i have a trip i'm planning for next year and i could use some advice!
I'm going to be travelling to Japan and staying for ~2 months.
The person i am travelling with wants to stay in Japan for the entire duration of our stay however i am interested in visiting some of the neighbouring countries. So i plan to leave my travel buddy for about 2 weeks-ish to go and visit South Korea and China.
Now my question is - what is the best way to travel around asia? I've had a quick look at some flights but they seem slightly expensive. I wondered if there are many Ferry options? Or if there is some other way i have not considered. Basically what is the cheapest way of traveling around North East Asia, particularly including Korea and China? I have no problem with the journey taking a long time and am a fairly confident traveller.
Also whilst i am in that part of the world are there any other places that are must see and i should try to work into my trip?
And finally - when i am looking at my initial return flights between London and Osaka i want to try and work in a stop-over. Helsinki and Istanbul seem to be along the main flight routes (usually only a couple of hours between on-going flights though) but i wondered if there are any other usual destinations when flying across to that part of asia? And if anyone has any decent websites where you canwork in a 1-2 day stop-over into a flight without pushing it up in price.
Basically any and al information about travelling around the region would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance for any advice 😊
Reply to this I travelled with my family using trains around Japan then a ferry to South Korea and used trains to get around there before flying to China.
Reply to this Welcome back to TB!
Trains rule in Japan, and getting a JR rail pass will give you great value. The voucher needs to be brought before you enter the country, and this is exchanged for the pass proper when you want to activate it.
(today is actually the last day on mine...)
I've flown from Japan > London using Korean Air via Seoul. Perhaps that would be an option even if it cost a bit to extend the stopover on either the way there or the way home.
Reply to this If you only have a spare couple of weeks to indulge in another country then your best bet is probably heading over to South Korea as China is vast and massive and I'd say needs more concentration than just a couple of weeks. Plus Korea is easier to get to, you could jump on the hydrofoil ferry from near Fukuoka to Busan and be there in a couple of hours. Once in Korea buses around the country are dirt cheap.
