Lima to Machu Picchu

Itinerary ideas, suggestions

Wanting some help with itinerary ideas.
Arrive into Lima (from San Francisco) at 1130PM on Feb 7th and out of Lima at 1250AM on the 13th March.
Wanting some suggestions on where to stay. Would love to get to Machu Picchu before any tour busses arrive. Only issue is where to stay.
Do we pay for a hotel on Lima on the 7th or just sleep at the airport and fly out the next morning?
Would you stay in Cuzco or Ollyentatambo or go straight to the town at Machu Picchu.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hello Toni, I am not speaking from experience, but from my planning stage. I arrive late at night in Lima, and chose to spend the night at the airport, catching a 5:30 flight to Cuzco. Since I am not sure how I will do with the altitude, I am spending a couple days in Cuzco before taking an overnight trip to Machu Picchu. In order to add the Huaynapicchu hike, I needed to spend the night in Aguas Caliente. I'm not sure if this will help, but hopefully it will. I will be watching your blogs to see if you find any great places that I should see while down there. Reply to this
