What an epic day!!!! Started at the bike hire shop at 8am. Made our way to the Golden Gate Bridge. Pretty amazing! Made our way across checking out the views if the city and Alcatraz, but also constantly reminded of the suicidal aspect this bridge has...there are phone boxes with notices on them saying to call for help and counselling and reminding people that if they jump it may result in death. Arrived in Sausalito at 10, so stopped for breakfast. Quite a cute seaside town, but nothing compared to what lay ahead. From there we made our way to Mill Valley and checked out the huge redwoods. So amazing and the houses that are built amongst them...incredible! From there we headed to Tiburon. A very tough ride. Blair ended up biking beside me to push ... read more

Chichen itza About to go into a Mayan Skies show. Arrived at Chichen Itza at about 3pm after leaving Merida at 730. After a bit of confusion with the rental car (no registration plates, but apparently it's okay) made our way to Uxmal. The ruins there were pretty spectacular. Still amazed every time we go to those ruins at what they were able to achieve. Spent a bit of time just sitting at the top of the pyramid looking out at the "town". Then we made our way back towards Merida and then East towards Cancun. Passed a truck with 2 massive boulders on it, making the ruins even more spectacular. Roads weren't as bad as we thought. Arrived at Chichen Itza. Ruins are right outside our front door. 100m away. Maya Skies show was amazing. ... read more

Well our days of laying on the beach and drinking cocktails are over (well at least for a week). Flew to Oaxaca City from Peurto Escondido on a teeny weeny plane. Kind of like the Sounds Air ones at home. Arrived and it was pretty chilly. We are about 5000ft above sea level and first thing in the morning you feel it. And when the sun goes down at night! During the day though we are getting 32 degrees!!! I seem to have developed my sun allergy again. Seems every time I spend too much time in the sun I get what looks like sandfly bites over my arms and legs. Not sure what it is, but bloody annoying and super itchy!!! Finding not a lot of English spoken here so a bit of menu roulette ... read more

About to start making out way to Mexico. 1.5hr flight from Cuzco to Lima. Then a 12hr wait at Lima airport. May venture into the city. Then have a 6hr flight to Houston and then into Mexico City. Hoping to book a flight to get down to peudo Escondido on the same day but not sure if we have enough connection time. 12 hour wait in Lima wasn't too bad. I think because we knew it was coming we could prepare. Spent a bit of time booking flights to Peurto Escondido. I went to a nail salon as had managed to pick off all of my shellac nails :) haha. The rest of our flights went seamlessly. Arrived at Peurto Escondido. Super hot. Cute beachside town. Spending 5 nights here. All we will be doing is ... read more

We were up at 3am this morning to get a flight to Peru. This is via Houston, so currently hanging out on some uncomfortable chairs before we board in 3 hours time. Arrive into Lima at midnight, then have the fun 6hr wait at the airport for our connection to Cuzco. Going to be a LONG day. Security in San Fran was high for our flight to Houston, but nothing for leaving for Peru?! Perhaps because we have already do e it? Blair a bit concerned for when we re-enter the states that we haven't been stamped to leave. Watch this space :) .... Well we finally made it into Cuzco. Our flight was at 5.20 am. But due to weather (low cloud) we couldnt land. But did have 3 attempts which was terrifying! Even Blair ... read more

Cuzco was alot nicer than we thought it was going to be. Gorgeous old buildings, beautiful old plaza and garden areas. We did a walking tour out if the Lonely Planet guide which was food but bloody hot. It took us up to a lookout point which had a view of the whole city. Cuzco is the largest and oldest city in Peru. There are ALOT of dogs around, and occasionally smell urine. There are water channels running down some streets and then later saw a guy peeing in one of them (so the smell was explained). One thing we were surprised with was the number of bakeries. Exquisite pastries, cakes, and slices set up on stunning window displays. Looked very out of place. Walking around the city was great. Got to see the locals and ... read more

Dinner in Aguas Calientes. Well....I think we went in there while they had the closed sign up, interrupted his families dinner, made the guy go to the diary as we had ordered a beer and he didn't sell any (the beer he came back with was 1.1L). A bit of an experience. And gave the guy a tip as we felt bad. But was very funny at the time! :) After a night of very heavy rain we decided to set 2 alarms for the morning, one at 5am and one at 7am. We were heading up to Machu Picchu but thought if it was still pouring with rain then would go up later. Anyway first alarm went off and weather was perfect! Got to Machu Picchu about 7ish. Such an amazing place!!! I have uploaded ... read more

Well we finally made it into Cuzco. Our flight was at 5.20 am. But due to weather (low cloud) we couldnt land. But did have 3 attempts which was terrifying! Even Blair was afraid!!! So we returned back to Lima but had to wait on the Tarmac for 5 hours. Then at midday they combined our flight with another and set off again. Still a scarey flight. It was like being in a roller coaster flying around the hills of Cusco to set up for landing. Arrived bit missed our hotel transfer for the hotel as were supposed to land at 645. Sealed with a couple of taxi drivers and started our 1.5 hour drive to Ollyantamtambo. Amazing drive although altitude was just starting to get me. Either that or the lack of sleep. Made it to San Francisco. I'm a bit jaded. 12 hour flight + 3 hours to get through customs + hay fever was not a good combo. From the airport, got a train into town (after we figures out how to get a ticket!! Haha an experience in itself). Train reminded me of the movie "ghost". Pretty cool. Then, all of a sudden a huge (tall) black man came barging into our carriage and starting shouting "hello ladies and gentleman, I am here to sell you a street magazine. I am a volunteer with the homeless and am just after some lunch money, have just been released from 20 years in jail..." At this point I was thinking, QUICK Blair give the man $1 for the frick'n paper! Haha, first American experience. Now have flu symptoms ... read more
