Let us commence with a mesmerising Spanish composition for guitar: Francisco Tarrega's Recuerdos de la Alhambra, which is adroitly performed by Johannes Möller from Sweden.

In response to: Msg #156855 Tarrega
During Denise's and my engagement to marry...over 30 years ago...we holidayed at Nana Glen (inland from Coffs Harbour in New South Wales)with a mate. The other occupant of the house was a young guy with partial vision who was technically blind...I think his name was Robbie. He was bitter that Social Security had declared him fit only for basket weaving...when he said he could play guitar.
We pressed him to play for us...he reluctant...but we pushed and I think our mate brought the guitar out to him...he took his guitar...and played that track...brilliantly. It was mesmerising...hypnotic...the passion dripped from the rafters.
When he finished I said "That's by Tarrega...I have never heard it better"...and he wept...I think the rest of us did too. Reply to this

VARIACOES EM SOL
Portuguese Fado Guitar piece by J. Nunes...one of my favourites from my youth. I have this on an LP "Fados e Guitarrados au Portugal avec Amala Rodrigues"...played by two guitars.
A wonderful way to start the day...

I've just ordered the CD by Gonçalo Salgueiro - good to see my music collection becoming even more eclectic. Reply to this

CD arrived, and it contained a bonus DVD as well - including the song listed above! It looks great on my TV and sounds wonderful through my stereo! Reply to this

Shane. Recuerdos de la Alhambra is one of my absolute favourite classical guitar pieces and up until recently, I always believed that John Williams had produced the best interpretation....that was until I heard this beautiful rendition played by the Vietnamese guitar player Kim Chung.

Rather commercial I know, however, John Williams is one of my all time favourites and this is played so beautifully :)
