The type of websites you mention above are not actually travel agents, but websites that search for the best deal from the various airlines and travel companies for your requirements. They are like search engines. The best thing to do with these is find the cheapest deal with the airline you like or with a convenient date and time for you.

As for the place to go, what do you mean by 'people have never been or heard of'? Do you mean somewhere slightly off the tourist trail? Because if noone has ever heard of this place, how can we recommend it!!!

Can you narrow down your requirements a bit for us. Asia is a BIG continent. Which area were you thinking of? SE Asia, North Asia, somewhere around India? Islands, cities, jungle, temples, beaches? If you give us a few more details on your requirements, we will be able to help you a bit better.

Hello there,

I must recommend you visiting one of the national parks not far from Bangkok -either Kaeng Krachan or Khao Yai. Trees are fruiting during the rainy season and your chances of seeing wildlife increases. Here is a trip report I wrote up on visiting Kaeng Krachan -Thailand's largest NP just 2 hours south of the capital- during August 2007. Also, if you go to Kanchanaburi, be sure to rent a scooter and drive out into the surrounding countryside. To be honest it is not enough time to see and enjoy all the places you mentioned. I would certainly go to 2 countries. If I were you I would go to a maximum of 3 cities in the time you have. Take more flights too. Air Asia is the best to go between countries.

Previously I used travel agents all the time for the 'package' holiday but as a lone traveler I was always stung with the single supplement which could be anything from 50-100% of the original price.

Then I discovered how much cheaper it was to organize my own holidays when I was finally able to use the internet. And it was not that difficult to do, plus I could book myself any length of trip and not be stuck with the usual seven or fourteen nights.
