Hi everyone,
I am planning an easy going trip around Asia, well Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam, Thailand, Myamar and maybe a couple of others. I can stay for up to 4 months starting from about 12th June 2011 and I would appreciate advice on the cheapest way to fly from capital to capital and travel within each country, also cleanest/cheapest places to stay. I know that is a great deal of information but I am hopeful that someone will have some bits of information. Thank you :-)
Reply to this Hello Christine 😊
Welcome to TravelBlog. I made this thread especially for your questions.
I recommend South East Asia on a Shoestring, by Lonely Planet. I have used it for all my 4 trips to SE Asia and will take a copy on my upcomming trip to SE Asia. I think it pretty much covers all you are asking.
Also, you might find it useful to read the blogs here on TravelBlog, about the countries you are going to, and then maybe those bloggers whose travel style resonates with what you hope to experience can give more specific information. You can check out the blogs I made about SE Asia if you want, and then if anything in them appeals to you, just ask here what more you would like to know.

Reply to this There are many budget airlines in South East Asia that fly relatively cheaply and easily from city to city. Check out
Attitude Travel for a list. The most widely used is Air Asia.
A good website for accomodation is
Travelfish . As Mell says, one of the best ways to plan your trip is to read the Travelblogs on here about the countries you are thinking of visiting. People often write about the best places to see and ways to travel around.
Reply to this Thank you Rat on the Road, I really appreciate your input, I am feeling much more confident now, thanks to Mell and you :-)
Reply to this Hi Christar,
If you prefer clean city, i suggest you go to Danang in Vietnam. The beaches there are clean and beautiful. The environment is clear. Once coming there, you'll be strongly impressed by blue sky, green trees, white sand and emerald water. People are very friendly and hospitable. A promising destination.

Reply to this Hi Christar and welcome to travel blog.
We recommend you go to Kanchanaburi, Thailand. It was one of our favorite locations. You can take an inexpensive train out of Bangkok. We can recommend the BlueStar Guest house.
Clean rooms and reasonable rates.
We took a Thai cooking class that was wonderful.
A town full of history and some great day trips. I would recommend staying three days.
Reply to this Singapore is more than a stopover it can be an ideal gateway for South East Asia. It has the necessary infrastructure; world class airport, ferry terminals, good public transport system, Singapore discount hotels and some top tourist attractions.
Reply to this Hi D MJ Binkley,

include it in my itinery.
