Good and Bad points to travelling Burma

How many of you out there have been to Burma (Myanmar)? There doesnt seem to be a lot of good stuff written about the country unless I'm looking in the wrong place! I was keen to go but I discovered today I will need to backtrack on myself to do so and I am now wondering whether it is worth all the hassle given there are so many amazing places in Asia to see. Is it a difficult country to travel around?

Would value your opinions.

We love the country, we love the people.

Very important point, if you go there, make sure your money is going directly to the people and not to the dictators, this is the only serious warning I have about Burma.

Burmese people are amazing and so friendly. There are pratically no credit card in the country. They don't have ATM, so you have to bring your hard currencies with you.

We went there last April for 10 days and it was one of our best trip ever. Once in the country, you organize everything while on the ground, no real nned to book anything ahead.

Read blogs about Burma, you'll see how people love the place. It's a trip back in time....surrounded by smiles... Reply to this

I have a couple of friends who have been and loved it.

If you might be interested in having a guide for the country let me know I have a great one!

Thanks both for your enthusiastic responses it sounds like a place not to be missed which I am glad to hear as I really had wanted to go there!

How do I know if money is going to the people and not dictators?

D MJ - I have sent you a message re your guide cheers. Having re-read your email I realise its your friend's that went and not you so you may not be able to answer a couple of my questions. Guide sounds good though! :-) Reply to this

Good Morning,

I am certain that you would like this guide. His prices will be based on the trip that you are interested in. When we were planning our trip the price included hotels. Please let Htun know that we sent you and that may help.

Sincerely,
Merry Jo Binkley
