Im going to India from 5-19 Jan 2011. My question is being the high season, do you think I should book my accomodation in advance or just go to any of the hotels mentioned in the Lonely Planet?

Im going to India from 5-19 Jan 2011. My question is being the high season, do you think I should book my accomodation in advance or just go to any of the hotels mentioned in the Lonely Planet without booking knowing that there are hundreds of hotels, hostels in India? I have been to India before but it was back in 1999 and then we did not make bookings just turned up and we never had any problems. But things might have changed😊))
Could you give me your views on that?

It depends on places you wanna visit. As u are planning to visit from 5-19 Jan 11, this is a winter season in India and at most of the places hotels are easily available.
So if you can share details about ur itenary i can help you in a more better way.

Im not sure, Im just making my plans. However, I think I wanna visit the North, as I have been already been to the south and I haven't seen the must-see places. I guess, Agra, Varanasi etc. Then move down south to Bangalore.
How abt the visa? I heard you must have a return ticket to be able to enter the country.
